We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Ngumezi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own business as a response to a word God put in my spirit. My background is in Corporate America, and I have a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. I came from a very academic and professionally-driven household, so business operations kind of runs in my blood, however, I didn’t actually want to start a business. I was comfortable working my 9-5 job until I hit a ceiling and realized that it wasn’t really something I wanted to do long-term. So starting a business for me was a part of my purpose, and ultimate my destiny to become a Full-Time Entrepreneur with multiple 4-5 Figure brands on social media. God has used my gifts and talents in business administration, social media management, photography, copywriting, storytelling and social media marketing to not only create my own lane in the business world, but to also teach and uplift other women to do the same. As a result of my experiences, I now teach women how to create 4-5 Figure brands on social media through my business Brand Your Biz Academy (https://brandyourbizco.teachable.com/p/free-ebook). A lot of women start brands & businesses, but lack purpose. Creating purpose-based brands and businesses changed my life, and I want other women to experience this same freedom.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a Full-Time Entrepreneur who teaches female leaders how to create 4-5 Figure brands on social media in Brand Your Biz Academy. As the CEO of a nationally recognized 501 (c)(3) Nonprofit Organization, The Proverbs 31 Women’s Organization, owner of Brand Your Biz and The CN Brand, and Published Social Media Influencer on Instagram, I’ve used my 10+ years of professional experience to transition from a corporate employee to owning my own businesses in 1 year. I get the amazing opportunity to serve over 1,000 women across the country through my businesses, and I do it all through faith. What sets my businesses apart from others is me. I’ve come to realize that I am the brand, and the more time and energy I invest into appreciating my life experiences and survivals, the more I can help and serve others at a higher capacity. My faith in God, specifically in Jesus Christ, is another distinction that I am excited about. When I worked in corporate, sharing my faith was not something I was very vocal about. Owning my own businesses allows me to help women through my nonprofit, consulting business, social media page, and online boutique while also sowing seeds of faith, love, and inspiration. I am very thankful for these amazing opportunities God has blessed me with as a result of my faith in believing in him. I’m very excited about the re-launch of my Online Coaching Program, Brand Your Biz Academy 2, where women will learn how to create a 4-5 Figure brand on social media. This is an area that I believe many women in this time are called to (entrepreneurship), and I’m very excited to be a part of the movement and to help women gain freedom in this area. (Learn More: https://brandyourbizco.teachable.com) Transitioning from a full-time corporate employee to a full-time entrepreneur with multiple businesses has not been easy, however, it is very rewarding. I am able to use all of my gifts and talents to create, serve, and inspire, and I am most proud of this. I help women specifically in the area of transitioning through Consulting. I have been able to overcome my many challenges of being a new female black entrepreneur through educating myself in my many fields of business, connecting with wise minds, staying focused on the vision God gave me, and by having faith in the one where all my help comes from. On my journey of faith and entrepreneurship, I have learned that the people who speak the loudest aren’t always the ones with the most knowledge, and that I am right where I’m supposed to be as long as I keep my focus and attention on the things God has given me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am born and raised in Houston, TX. Places I would recommend to a friend: – Downtown museums – The Aquarium – Downtown murals – Shopping & Restaurants in River Oaks District – Shopping at the Galleria – Volunteering at the Houston Food Bank

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my accomplishments as an entrepreneur to my mentor Brian, and to the women of Brand Your Biz Academy who believed in my gift enough to invest in my business. Thank you ladies and Brian for your continued support, and I pray that God continues to bless you and your visions.
