We had the good fortune of connecting with Cynthia Baldwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cynthia, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
That’s very simple, I have always loved to bake so it was just an easy jump from a corporate job I held for almost 20 years in finance to doing what I’ve done since I was a teen and that was baking.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is shown in my cake work. I am a self taught baker who grew up watching my mom aunt bake pies, cake and cookies. I fell in love with the entire concept of baking by watching them. What I think sets me apart from others would be my ability to create works of art just by seeing an inspiration. Also, my absolute love for all things sweet! What I am most proud of I would say opening the cake shop in 2016 without any firsthand knowledge of running a day to day operation. I got here simply by not giving up and moving forward. I would like the world to know that I am here and that Cynthia’s kitchen create works of art made from sugar!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to NASA only because I have never been. We would have lunch at Maggianos because I love Italian food. We would shop at the galleria specifically SAKS because they have every material thing you could want. And I would run them by my shop so we could bake some fresh hot cookies and have a cupcake or two.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
ABSOLUTELY My family! They have played an intricate role in where I am today regarding my business. They have always been there to help cultivate what the shop has grown to be today. They have helped with funding, baking, decorating, deliveries, manual labor you name it they have done it. Without them, I wouldn’t  have been able to go on this journey. They have helped in every aspect of the business. My mom, who passed away in 2018 was my waking billboard! Everywhere she went, she would give you a card from her daughter’s bakery. My sister’s have helped with the day to day operations in the shop. My daughter, nephew and nieces make deliveries for me. And my amazing husband is my calming factor when things get hectic and go wrong, he gives me feedback when I have a concern regarding the business, he makes positive suggestions, he is my sounding board, he never let’s me give up and is a willing taste tester when I come up with new flavors for items we sale in the shop. My uncle and brothers have also played pivotal roles from putting cake boxes together to doing plumbing and electrical work when needed. So, it truly has been a family team effort.
