We had the good fortune of connecting with D. Gemm and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi D., why did you pursue a creative career?
To empower Creatives, people and the youth. Art is empowering in so many ways. Visuals stick with us and they can impact us on many different levels.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is all about Appreciation. The appreciation of the body, of nature, of love, of my people and of the Universe. I am excited about the newest chapter as a Professional Artist because I have branched out to also creating Murals, exploring different artistic styles and creating larger pieces. It has been an interesting journey as a Professional Artist, during which I also became an Event Curator. Exploring different avenues within the Arts has allowed me the ability to learn a lot about the Business side of the Industry and various ways to expand through out it. As an Artist it is difficult to expand your audience which is why I explored other ventures within the Arts. But through exploring these ventures I have found many ways to expand my audience, market myself and increase my value. I would like the world to know there are no limits to what you can do with your dreams, only the limitations we place upon ourselves.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Pre- COVID…. We would hit up Axelrad and vibe to some live music. Go dance on the weekend at Alley Kat after we catch the live band and Marion Echo show upstairs. We would visit the Big park with the beautiful gardens behind the Children’s Museum. Speaking of Museums we would go there after the park because it’s free on Thursdays. We’d probably go eat eat at Cascabel, they have bomb Vegan Mexican Food. Churros at Discovery Green and then the Blck Market on Avenida depending on the weekend. Vegan treats at Crumbville near Emancipation and hopefully an Electrobounce party.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
