We had the good fortune of connecting with Danika Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I knew from my many experiences In different fields that I wanted to have my own business one day. There was no joy in any of the positions I was in, Most of the time I was working too many hours away from my children and I knew that it wasn’t the life I wanted for myself or them. Having my own schedule while doing something I enjoyed was all I wanted so I fell back into the beauty industry which I always had a passion for pursuing a career in. I fell on the opportunity to learn how to do eyelash extensions, I took it right away and made a plan to work my way into being my own boss. It was definitely a roller coaster but I never gave up and 3 years later I’m doing exactly what I planned and working to do more to gain financial freedom for my family.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What I believe sets my business apart from others is the environment that we provide. We pride ourselves in greeting everyone with a smile and in a friendly manner. I try to treat every single one of my clients how I would want to be treated and listen to give them exactly what they want. I’m proud to say that I have never gotten a bad review or a client disappointed in me. The majority of my clients now are referrals and that makes me so happy, it’s the biggest complement. I’m grateful to have become friends with most of them. I have gotten where I am now by not giving up, on the days I want to I go harder. It can be tiring, running everything myself. The long days and nights were tough, but I knew it was part of the process to become better at my craft and nobody else was going to put in the work for me. I’ve learned to ask for help and to not be afraid to make mistakes because that’s the only way I have learned to do things the proper and effective way. Also, to be PATIENT and know when to jump on an opportunity and when not to. Opening my first studio was a definite learning experience, there were things I did not know going into it and I paid for it in the long run. Moving forward for my next location, I know better to reach out and use resources that will save me the headache versus me trying to figure it all on my own. I’m glad, though, I would have never learned what it takes to run an actual store front location had I not been hands on and made certain mistakes. So I want people to know that I am human just like everyone else and I’m just trying to make everyone feel beautiful one eyelash at a time. As a woman, sometimes it’s the smallest things that make us happy. Doing our nails, hair and Eyelashes bring us a sense of confidence and there’s nothing wrong with enhancing our beauty. I love the feeling of seeing my clients open their eyes and they just grow bigger along with their smile. This is my passion and I hope to grow into one day having multiple studios full of Lash artists doing what they love along with me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my friend to the downtown and midtown area. An astros or rockets game, those are always fun and a must go to at least once! The best part of Houston is there is always something to do! On a regular day I’d start with Brunch at toute suite or cucharas, then dinner at the truck yard where they have several food trucks or head to the galleria area and go to my favorite Sushi restaurant, RA. We could spend a day in Galveston and go to one of my favorite spots “The Spot” and Of course to the beach to catch a tan. There’s so many options, it’s hard to fit it all in a week but she would definitely have a good time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would never have gotten as far as I have if it wasn’t for my family and clients. My family helped with my children while I took clients, sometimes even late at night after work. They never complained or made me feel like I was doing this for nothing, they were supportive the whole time and continue to be. I have clients who didn’t even know me yet gave me a chance to prove my work and are still with me till this day. It is because of them that I have built a solid clientele. Their loyalty and support is everything to Me.
