Meet Danny Nguyen | Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danny Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danny, what do you attribute your success to?
Repetition in designing, manufacturing and presenting is the fundamental element which has enabled the achievement of creating high quality pieces and service. It is though constant repetition of these things that we aim to gain and improve our craftsmanship.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The now scarce handmade couture is where i find myself as a artist. Following the tradition of old master tailors and seamstress. Inspired by Asian colors and customs, I experience handcraft as the meticulous art form which gives birth and value to the unique gowns I design. I’m excited about sharing the interest of fashion with other couture artists and showcasing our work together every six months at FashionWeek. Failures, struggle and inexperience have been great teachers I still encounter to this day, but the inspiration which comes from hard work and faith in my aesthetic, have also been a consistent reason in me to endure hardships and embrace success. I’ve learned to believe in my own intuition and take criticism from others as a tool for growth. I’d love for any people who pursue a life in this country, to know about yet another immigrant family with the odds against them who were able to create and run a successful, sustainable business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For the culinary tourist I would recommend Chinatown and all its great authentic variety of Asian restaurants in the southwest side of the city. Houston features one of the best designed museum districts I’ve experienced, which I am grateful to visit frequently and walk around the beautiful parks and gardens close to downtown, For the outdoor and nature love I travel just 25 min north of the city into the woodlands and Conroe city where I enjoy camping in the woods and fishing in the lake.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother took it upon herself to educate me in her trait as a tailor out of our family necessity to build a business to support ourselves. It was through these skills I found my calling as a designer. I am forever grateful to her and my family for the never ending support which has sustained my inspiration and freedom to create.
