We had the good fortune of connecting with Daphne Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daphne, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
My husband and I are from two very different backgrounds. I am from a small town in Louisiana known as Lafayette or “Cajun Country” if you will; while he is from the home of the blues and a street named Beale that some believe can talk — Memphis, TN. While it appears highly unlikely that the two of us should join together in business let alone marriage, our upbringing is actually what unites us. We both grew up with grandfathers that had farms, believed in hard work, and the necessity of owning and operating your own. In addition, we both grew up in single-parent homes where we watched and lived the struggle. As such, we both vowed that we would uphold our parents’ teachings that each generation should do better than the previous generation. Our greatest desire was to raise our children under the same principles while allowing them to watch the journey towards legacy building.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Wilson Business and Tax Preparation Serivices prides itself on educating clients above anything else. It is our goal to help clients understand the importance and benefits of owning their own business. In addition, we teach our clients about ethical and legal bookkeeping, tax filing, marketing, business credit, and so much more. As a result, we have been able to establish ourselves as a reputable company because we always put the client and their needs first.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of the most exciting people and places to check out are some of the other locally owned businesses. I would take them to eat at the Turkey Leg Hut or Kid Kreole’s. We could hangout at Phil & Derek’s where there is always great food and great music too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are two people who have made this possible — my husband and my mother. I woud like to thank my mom for teaching me that there is no such thing as “no”. That if I think divergently anything is possible. I would like to thank my husband for always pushing me out of my comfort zone and for making me comfortable with being uncomfortable.
