We had the good fortune of connecting with Dashon Roach and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dashon, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want people to remember me as the nationwide hero for mental health. I want to be known as the brave voice who took a stand for the mental health community. I want to leave a great impact on as many people’s lives as possible. I want the world to see me as living proof that it is very much possible to survive a mental illness. I want the mental health community to be able to say “Dashon is the reason I kept fighting my mental battle” or “Dashon saved me!” I’m a success story, I overcame all of the adversity that was thrown at me in life. The burdensome battles of my mental health nearly destroyed me back then, but now I’m using my story to help others get through their mental battles. I’m one of God’s strongest soldiers, I’m half woman and half warrior. I’ve survived mental health, I’m spreading awareness on mental health and now I’m helping others heal from mental health! I want to leave the legacy of being the nationwide hero for the mental health community!
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m Dashon Roach and I’m the founder of a mental health awareness organization called Unitedd Fighters. My organization was inspired from my personal experience with dealing with mental health. As the founder I strive to go above and beyond to advocate and educate for mental health. The Unitedd fighters organization is set into place to be the voice and the safe haven for those fighting a mental battle. All mental health matters and should be a trending topic. Unitedd Fighters won’t let anyone go unheard or unnoticed! My organization is set apart from others, because I’m a founder who can connect with the members of my organization on a deeper level. I personally know how it feels to be in what seems like a never ending challenging battle. I won my battle by the grace of God and I’m here to encourage others and give them motivation from my story to keep fighting. I’m also here to guide them through their fight to defeat their mental illness. When it comes to getting society to take mental illness seriously it can be difficult, so having an organization based on that topic brings a small audience. It hasn’t been easy having a mental health awareness organization, but the many people who tell me it motivates them makes it all worth it. I want the world to know that Unitedd Fighters is the army to help anyone out there fighting a mental battle!
“We Care, Let’s Talk”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston has many different places that give a good experience. The city is extremely diverse so it gives everyone a place to go and enjoy. The many different museums, restaurants, parks, beaches and fun activity places makes the city even more great. My personal favorite is the different museums, every museum tells a different story of all the arts and gives a unique feel of the city. Houston is a city I would highly recommend residents and visitors to explore and enjoy the good experience the city has to offer!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to every fighter, survivor or person who has had to deal with any form of mental health disorders. When a person is in a battle with the mind, it isn’t easy at all. For that reason I want to commend the entire mental health community! It takes a brave and strong person to deal with a mental health disorder. I also want to shout out the other mental health advocates and supporters, because it takes a village. For someone to make another person fight their fight shows a lot of compassion. The brave voices, listening ears, and the sanctuaries deserve to be recognized as well! I want to give a big shout out to the members and supporters of the Unitedd Fighters Organization. The support is amazing and greatly appreciated. If it wasn’t for the love and support being shown to Unitedd Fighters I wouldn’t be able to raise awareness like I’m doing. Last but not least I want to shout out my entire family for fighting my battle with me and for me. They covered me and protected me from my illness when I felt hopeless and wanted to give up. My family became my army when my mental battle became too hard for me to fight. They saved me, I’m here today because of them.
