We had the good fortune of connecting with Dastana Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dastana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started my beauty business my thought process was my obsession’s with transformations. I didn’t like the thought of working a 9-5 for someone else making them extremely wealthy and coming home to do nothing but get ready to go make them richer the next day. I knew my love for beauty and what I was good at. I knew couldn’t get fired or stress about a monthly review and how I performed based off Corporate Satisfaction thats when ” BrushedByDastana” was created.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love the fact that with my artistry I strive to make the transformations natural. I am not the make-up artist for everyone and I am happy with that. I use to look at the other make-up artist and thank ” What am I doing Wrong ” and it wasn’t nothing I did wrong I just dont provide that type of service. My brand is different. I allow my clients to tell me ” Give me heavy or soft” I build a comfortable atmosphere for my clients. I like to explain to my clients what im using , asking health questions ” Are you allergic to these ingredients ” or ” is there colors you do not like”. I have learned my clients , I know who doesn’t like what brands and I know who like silent appointments. I had days I wanted to quit forever because I lost the drive and dedication for it. When I lost my twins I didnt want to go back to doing it anymore. I didn’t want to get back and face the world but I feel like my boys would want me to fight for my dreams. Everything I do now is off the strength of them and their honor.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Brunch ! we will go to Black Walnut Cafe in the Vintage.

Lunch possibly crawfish at Popee Cajun Crawfish or Cajun Fuze maybe even Grace’s.

We can walk the Memorial City Mall or even the Woodlands mall for shopping. There is a boardwalk off of BakerCypress with shopping centers and food.

We can hang out at Prospect Park for drinks and music. Frozen Courage was a good spot to hang out at as well. Definitely can enjoy the Downtown night life,

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my lord and savior. My twin angels( Laden and Landon) who are now in Heaven who keeps me going with strength. My Big Brother “Cedrick Jones” and Mom ” Linda Ford” who actually told me get into Cosmetology school. Also, my loyal clients who trusted me when I started out. I especially would love to thank ” Sam Tealer” who came to me almost everyday before her shift at work. Sam Tealer was my very first client who kept me motivated told me what she liked and didn’t.
