We had the good fortune of connecting with David Brady and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There were really two factors that played into my decision to start my own business. First and foremost, I truly enjoy working directly with people especially as an executive coach and in strategic planning, The ability to support entrepreneurs, CEO’s and organization leaders, of small and mid-size organizations brings me the most satisfaction I have had in my professional journey. The second factor that really led to making the decision when I did was a desire to work when I want and with whom I want to work. Being able to choose who I am partnering with and when I work provides me the flexibility in my schedule to focus on personal projects and choosing my partnerships prevents me, most of the time, from being forced into unhealthy cultures or working with energy vampires.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What separates me from other executive coaches and strategic planning professionals is that I truly get imbedded with my clients. I take on just a few clients and focus as much time and energy with them as possible. Plus, it is just me. I don’t have any staff that does the work for me, so I am in the weeds on every detail, every meeting and every solution.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting Houston, from out of town, I would focus our time on meeting people and eating out at so many of our amazing restaurants. Breakfast or lunch at Dona Maria on Navigation is a great place to do both with many of the local politicians and business leaders, especially from the east side, stopping in on almost a daily basis. Trill Burgers is another opportunity to grab some great food and meet very interesting people. And one evening have an early dinner at the Pit Room and then catch the bats at the Waugh Street Bridge. And to cap off a week I would have them spend a Sunday at NRG Park bouncing around some tailgate parties before heading into the stadium for a Texans home game.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My passion for leadership development and coaching came as a result of my participation in the national Association of Zoos and Aquariums Executive Leadership Development Program, while serving as Executive Vice President at the Houston Zoo. That program took what was already an interest and passion for me and helped me refine the style and programs I wanted to use on my own.
