Meet David Flores

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve been fortunate to experience incredible opportunities in other studios, from artistic growth to meaningful connections. When the time felt right, I wanted to create that same kind of environment for others. I opened my studio not with profit in mind, but with the goal of building a supportive team of artists who inspire one another, and fostering a space that is both motivating, healthy and welcoming to all who walk through those doors. Giving back to the community through events and donations has also been a long-time dream of mine—one that I am proud to say that we have been able to bring to life and grow since the opening of the studio. I would not be where I am without my team, clients and community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The journey to where I am today in my career was not an easy one, but I would not change it if it meant that I would not be where I am today. In those years I have grown not only artistically and professionally, but also personally. No one talks about the mentally taxing part of being a tattoo artist, but it can get hard. One lesson that I have learned and hope to pass on to not only other artists, but anyone in a mentally taxing profession, is to make sure to make the time to take care of yourself mentally and physically. Among the growth in my career, my growth artistically has molded me into a versatile artist that can tackle any style thrown my way. However I do prefer mostly large scale neotraditional tattoo designs. I am blessed to have endless loyal clientele that trusts in me and allows me creative freedom on their tattoo work.
The path to where I am today in my career hasn’t been easy, but I wouldn’t trade any part of it—every challenge helped shape the artist and person I’ve become. Over the years, I’ve grown not just artistically and professionally, but personally as well.
One aspect of tattooing that often goes unspoken is the mental toll it can take. A key lesson I’ve learned, and one I hope to share with fellow artists and anyone in a mentally taxing field, is the importance of prioritizing your mental and physical well-being.
Artistically, my journey has helped me evolve into a versatile tattooer capable of handling a wide range of styles. That said, my true passion lies in large-scale neotraditional designs.
I’m incredibly grateful for the loyal clients who not only trust me with their ideas but also give me the creative freedom to bring those visions to life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s always been a dream of mine to create memorable experiences for both clients and guest artists by showing them the best of Southeast Texas. I truly believe our growing city has so much to offer. As an outdoor enthusiast, I would love the opportunity to take guests out to enjoy some local adventures—whether it’s a day of fishing or a visit to see the two largest alligators in captivity. Southeast Texas is also home to some of the best locally owned restaurants, offering a wide variety of incredible food options that reflect the heart of our community.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
“My success today is the result of a lot of hard work and sacrifice. But I also owe a great deal to the shops I’ve worked at and the owners and artists who, whether intentionally or not, challenged me and helped me grow.
Not to mention the endless support from my clients!”
