We had the good fortune of connecting with David Reid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, how does your business help the community?
One of the greatest threats to our world is the silent, and hidden in plan sight, underbelly of Human Trafficking. The reason this over $200bn business has flourished has been the techniques used to hide and cover the reality amongst all of us.
Our impact is awareness that leads to concern and action. Ultimately society needs to have a strong opposition to human trafficking because it is in fact modern day slavery and is creeping in to everyone’s family, neighborhood and country, particularly the US.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started in a repair workshop in Scotland. As I started to develop new machine ideas I was noticed and taken to our HQ in Orange California at the time. Despite resistance to my age, I found ways to invent and change the business and become an integrated system influencer.
I was moved to Houston to help an aquisition company and push new technology. We were bought by a Houston based corporation and I continued to grow my influence in our industry and across many industries as a speaker on technology and innovation.
I started a non profit after being on many boards and seeing that non profits need business thinking and also observing that the coming generation is about giving of their skills more than their money.
My love of creativity (personally being an artist and musician) applied to people and learning how to create environments for people to grow, including myself in that equation.
In my non profit we have become a movement to draw people in and energize them to impact humanity with using their skills and applying themselves to spread a message and engage all levels of society.
Nothing has ever been easy, but I have always worked with amazing people who take tough days as moments for learning and getting back up and fighting the good fight to change the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d make sure the amazing network of the start up community was experienced with “a Cup of Joey” – a gathering of interesting people who learn and inspire each other around meaning, I’d also go to aSecondCup for coffee in an inspired setting that gives back to survivors of sex trafficking, I’d visit the Museum of Fine Arts and the Post for an interesting multicultural lunch that expresses our cities amazing diversity and I’d catch a live show in one of our many theaters and venues. Our sports teams are also worth a visit any time depending on the season, we have very entertaining environments for sure.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is dedicated to David Batstone, who started Not For Sale and many other businesses to combat human trafficking. He is a friend and fellow warrior in impacting the world using the specific skills and abilities that you have been given to make a difference.
