We had the good fortune of connecting with certified life coach, Dawn Paul aka The Dr. Dawn®️ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dawn Paul aka The Dr. Dawn®️, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s your definition for success?
Success is subjective, and my definition is based on purpose, not popularity. I don’t define it by images portrayed on social media, a certain number of likes and followers, or other people’s opinions and definitions of what success is/should be. What success is for one person is not necessarily the definition for another. Success for me is living in my God-given calling, making sure I am purposeful, leaving my positive impact and footprint at each opportunity. So many sell out or sell others out for success. And though those individuals may obtain (or seem to obtain) prosperity, they have no peace. If it is meant to be yours, you don’t have to lie, cheat, or steal to receive what is destined for you. What God has for you is for you! So while you do have to work hard for positive results, you don’t need to use manipulation to obtain the promises God has for you. When you understand that, there are no thoughts of competition, but you are walking in your calling with confidence, qualified to succeed. As I commit my plans to the Lord (Proverbs 16:3), with those plans aligned with His, I trust I will not be denied the blessings He has for me. And living in purpose, I am able to enjoy my success and prosperity in absolute peace.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What brought me to Houston was being accepted into law school (I wanted to be an attorney so I could fulfill my dream of having a court TV show…yep, it’s true). Well, after curving out of law school, I was at a low point, questioning God as to why He even allowed me to move here if I wasn’t going to succeed. But little did I know while I was going for a career, God was using this experience to direct me to my calling! Shortly after law school, I received an opportunity to write and report for a publication, interviewing notables like civil rights icon, the late John Lewis and Oscar winner Viola Davis. During that time I began hosting and producing my own TV show, covering various topics. And Judy Foston, one of my media mentors gave me my first radio opportunity (with pay…yay). That radio opportunity expanded my media platform, birthing The Dr. Dawn®️. Being a radio co-host and addressing callers on their life and love challenges was taking me into the calling of supporting and helping people. After the run of the radio show, I registered my media name, continuing the show on my own. From there, I earned my life coach certification, building a coaching practice that successfully supports clients. Obsessed With Media®️, my other company, allows me to use my communications experience and skills to help clients increase their brand awareness for expansion. God disrupted the plans (Jeremiah 29:11) I had for my life. And what looked like a disappointment was really opening doors for God’s divine intervention to work in my life. You never know where your purpose will lead you. What a blessing that now I’m being interviewed regularly on TV platforms that include CW39, NBC-KPRC, and FOX 26. It’s a great compliment and very humbling to know that my words make a positive impact. Serving my coaching and media clients, I continuously strive to add value, delivering with excellence to help propel them in their platform and purpose. It’s all about my clients receiving real results. Sometimes working until 5/6AM, there’s no complaining as I understand this is a calling and to whom much is given, much is required (Luke 12:48). More will be required of you as God elevates you. Your job is to stay on the purposeful path He has for you. And staying on your path, trust you won’t miss any good thing God has for you. Also, you won’t miss the extraordinary way He wants to use your gifts, talents, and purposes to make a great impact in this world and in the lives of others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So many awesome places in our city. But as I’m a vegetarian (not quite ready for vegan life yet), let me start with Green Seed Vegan on Almeda. Their Hulk Smoothie and sweet potato fries are my favorite and what also keeps me coming back is that the good service comes with a smile. And being a coffee lover, I have to take a drive down the street to my friends at Kaffeine Coffee. Christopher Rashard and his mother, Orgena Keener are the owners, truly committed to seeing our communities thrive. Now though I’m a vegetarian, I have to suggest Frenchy’s Chicken. Before I became a vegetarian, I was here at least two times a week. And when I’m driving by a Frenchy’s and smell that fresh fried chicken in the air, it makes me want to break this vegetarian lifestyle…LOL. I still have their good lemon cake though. OMG that lemon cake! And let me remind you to NEVER judge a book by its cover. Some of those hole in the wall restaurants have the BEST food! Other things to do in our beautiful city are The Shrine Cultural & Event Center on MLK for their Buy Black Marketplace, take pictures in front of Houston’s street art and murals around the city, check out the Rooftop Cinema Club drive-in movie experience, rent a B-cycle, catch a sports game, or take a drive to enjoy the beach and scenery in Kemah and Galveston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Man! When I tell you that list is long, believe me. Of course my family is my biggest cheerleader. But there are countless individuals and groups who support and show love and who are such a blessing to the continuous growth of this brand. I know I’ll forget someone if I list names, so let me just say, to every organization that allows me to speak/host/teach, thank you. To every media platform that allows me to be a guest and host, pouring truth and wisdom into their audience, thank you. To my media clients who trust me with their projects, thank you. To my coaching clients who trust me to be a support system in the achievement of their goals, thank you. To all of those who financially invest, sponsor, partner, or who purchase books/products/services, thank you. To all of those who volunteer, investing their time in this God-given calling, thank you. To those awesome divine dream team members who are there to support, working diligently behind the scenes, thank you. To the listeners, viewers, fans, and followers who take the time to catch the messages I give behind the mic, thank you. To every guest who trusts me with their story, allowing me to interview them, thank you. To the individuals I have never met personally, but who send me emails and DMs with words of encouragement and compliments, thank you. To all the mentors, sharing your knowledge and believing in me, thank you. To those in my circle who provide constructive criticism, tough love, and encouragement, thank you. Every single one of you are angels. Bless you all! I shout you all out! And if I have forgotten anyone, charge it to my head and not my heart.
