We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Puentes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dawn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I think initially it was the same as anyone’s thought when the idea of having your own business arises, “How great would it be to be my own boss?” But as the idea grew and I realized this was something that we could make happen, there were many thoughts. “Where do I start? This is going to be amazing! The possibilities are endless! This is scary! What happens if it doesn’t work? What happens if it does?” I ran through so many thoughts during the process. At times I thought, “Am I making the right choice?” But ultimately, the thought that drove me to keep pursuing the business was, ” This is my chance. My chance to create something successful, my chance to really be my own boss, my chance to have the work & family balance that I want, and my chance to show my children that you can really do anything as long as you put in the effort.”

What should our readers know about your business?
The biggest thing the sets us apart from others, is our commitment to put safety first. I am a registered diagnostic sonographer and I am proud that I make sure my business operates with only registered professionals & follows the recommended guidelines for safe imaging. It was not an easy route getting to where we are. There have been so many late or sleepless nights. There has also been a lot of doubt. Starting a business is a slow process. But, I kept advertising & I kept putting in the effort and slowly, but surely, business started happening. I’ve learned that even when things seem like they are going to fail, keep trying and you will prevail. I want the world to know that I am committed to provide an amazing luxury experience for my patients all while focusing on safety & proper technique. I want my patients to always feel comfortable & know they are in good hands.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Best places in the city? Well. Houston is full of amazing places. The zoo, the restaurants, the museums, the parks, there is something for everyone! Some of my favorites include The Houston Zoo, PopStroke, Sugar Land Town Square, and the many events, concerts that come through the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Really and truly, I could not have done this without my husband, Junior Puentes. Not only did he fully support the idea, but he helped me make it a reality. He helped me research, file papers with the state, financially, make a website, and so much more. Outside of that, my family has been a huge support helping me market & spread the word about the business.
