We had the good fortune of connecting with Deanna Bynog, Jessica Matthews, Patnisha Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deanna Bynog, Jessica Matthews, Patnisha Williams, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Get Signatured was born out of a dinner conversation among the three of us, where we discussed the difficulties, women face when trying to find custom-made items that feature their unique names, such as keychain souvenirs. We were motivated by the desire to provide customers with one-of-a-kind pieces that truly reflect their individuality and tell their unique stories. hence, we decided to create a brand that would allow girls with unique names to personalize and customize quality items that would showcase their personal style. We felt that we should create a brand where people could customize and personalize their names on quality pieces that tell their story of how unique and amazing they are.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The main thing that sets our brand apart are the custom, unique pieces that we offer to our customers. When a customer enters our store, we ask them, “How can we Signature you today?” How can we create or design a piece of jewelry that stands out and lets the world exactly who you are, what your name means, or the origin. We pride ourselves in Get Signatured telling your story without you saying a word. We are most proud of starting our brand in November 2019 and still able to grow into a storefront and survive during a pandemic that shocked the world and even caused several large-scale businesses to close their doors forever. The uncertainty of everything that was going on during that time was not easy, but it taught us how to pivot and be transparent with our customers as we awaited long weeks sometimes for materials to create their pieces. We are forever grateful to all our supporters for still being faithful customers of ours for almost 5 years now. Today, we’ve gotten this far by always being creative and open to new ideas, to always being teachable and learning new techniques whether it’s Facebook ads, email marketing, or engaging in whatever wave social media is currently on. We’ve also learned our strengths and weaknesses in each of us as business partners which allows us to work together as a team and put our best ideas forward to continue making strides as a Black- Owned jewelry brand. We want the world to know that you can pursue your dreams even if you don’t have all of the pieces of the puzzle to create your masterpiece at the time. Be teachable, be creative, and BE-lieve in your brand.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The weekend is our favorite time of the week because it gives us time to pour into ourselves by indulging in different solo activities such as self-care or meeting up with friends. On Saturday, our first stop would be a manicure and pedicure at The Venetian Nail spa which is a luxury nail salon located in Perkins Rowe. After being pampered, then off to Brunch and Bubbly with friends at Rouj Creole for a more relaxed setting. Then, we would spend the evening shopping at local boutiques in the area. Later that night, we would have dinner and drinks at the Tunnel, downtown Baton Rouge. On Sunday, we would refill our cup with a great word at church and give thanks to the man who makes everything possible, God. Then, we would attend Boil & Roux for Sunday Funday with a great DJ and fun vibes. Louisiana is also known for hosting a local festival for every single thing you can imagine, so if it’s a festival weekend, then you can find us downtown Baton Rouge or driving 45-minutes to New Orleans for some real Louisiana fun and great food.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person who deserves her flowers for assisting us in building a solid foundation for Get Signatured and scaling our brand during our startup phase is Patrice Garrison, owner of Successful on Social. We connected with Patrice through a Facebook group, Build, Brand, Launch by Arsha. At the time, she assisted small businesses in startup, email marketing, and content creation. We would schedule a monthly meeting with her to discuss the pros and cons of our brand, a monthly content calendar, emails, influencers, and any other personal issues our brand was experiencing. She taught us how to scale from $0 dollar days to $10,000 days by strategically building an organic audience that grew our brand, Get Signatured, to the next level. Patrice Garrison was and still is someone we can count on for advice at any time.
