We had the good fortune of connecting with Deidra Harwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deidra, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make was leaving my corporate job after 21 years of employment. Although it was challenging it was the best decision I have ever made. It gave me time to build my brand, focus on my business and much more opportunities.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Personal Journey of HCS Consulting: A Tale of Innovation, Empowerment, and Success

HCS Consulting was created from a passion for empowering people and businesses with efficient financial management and innovative solutions.

What Sets Me Apart

In a world where businesses often struggle to manage their financial and administrative tasks, HCS Consulting stands out with its comprehensive range of services. I am not just about managing Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable; I am about creating a seamless financial ecosystem for my clients. My innovative approach extends to developing customized CRM software, ensuring that my clients have the tools to manage their customer relationships effectively.

My Pride and Excitement

I take great pride in my Virtual Assistant services, where I do more than just administrative tasks. I provide a backbone of support, helping businesses streamline their operations. But what truly excites me is my role in empowering my credit clients. My participation in the 2018 Black Women’s Expo in Chicago, where I discussed the importance of good credit, is a testament to my commitment to financial education and empowerment.

My Journey and Overcoming Challenges

The road has not always been smooth. Like many businesses, I faced my share of challenges – from the initial hurdles of establishing a brand in a competitive market to keeping up with the rapid pace of technological change. But I embraced these challenges as opportunities to grow and learn. I invested in research and development, especially in CRM software, to stay ahead of the curve. My resilience and adaptability have been my greatest strengths.

Lessons Along the Way

Throughout my journey, I learned the importance of staying true to my core values – innovation, reliability, and customer-centric service. I realized that my success is not just measured by my bottom line, but by the positive impact I have on my clients’ businesses.

My Message to the World

As HCS Consulting continues to grow and evolve, I want the world to know that I am more than a business services provider. I am a partner in your success, a supporter of your operational needs, and a champion of your growth. My story is not just about the services I offer but about the relationships I build with my clients and the businesses I help flourish.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, I’m more of a homebody, so my idea of a great week is pretty low-key, but I’d love to share my favorite things with you. Here’s how I imagine our week:

Day 1: Welcome and Mindful Morning

Morning: We’ll start with a meditation session to set a peaceful tone for the day, followed by a delicious home-cooked breakfast.
Afternoon: Relaxing at home, maybe listening to some new music or exploring different genres.
Evening: Order in from my favorite Indian restaurant and have a laid-back dinner.

Day 2: Crystal Exploration

Morning: Our usual meditation and breakfast routine.
Afternoon: A trip to my favorite crystal store. It’s a unique experience, even if you’re not into meditation.
Evening: Cooking a simple, healthy dinner at home and maybe watching a feel-good movie.

Day 3: Cultural Immersion at Home

Morning: Meditation followed by trying out a new breakfast recipe.
Afternoon: Dive into a cultural experience from home – maybe watch a documentary or explore music from different parts of the world.
Evening: Ordering cuisine that matches our cultural exploration theme.

Day 4: Nature and Nourishment

Morning: A quiet meditation session, then a wholesome breakfast.
Afternoon: A leisurely walk in a nearby nature spot – nothing too strenuous, just enjoying the outdoors.
Evening: Home cooking night, where we make a meal together with fresh, local ingredients.

Day 5: Creative Day

Morning: Meditation and a light breakfast.
Afternoon: Trying our hand at a creative activity at home – could be painting, crafting, or even just enjoying the weather and sitting in my gazebo.
Evening: Relaxing with our favorite tunes and a simple, comforting meal.

Day 6: Self-Care Saturday

All Day: A laid-back day focused on self-care. Think home spa, light yoga, or reading a good book.
Evening: A special dinner ordered in from the best restaurant nearby.

Day 7: Farewell and Reflection

Morning: Our final meditation and breakfast together.
Afternoon: Sharing our thoughts about the week, maybe writing down what we enjoyed most.
Evening: A quiet and cozy farewell dinner, homemade or ordered in, depending on our mood.

I know this might not be the typical ‘exciting’ itinerary, but it’s a glimpse into what I genuinely enjoy and find fulfilling. I hope it gives you a sense of my world and what a relaxing week with me might look like.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I want to extend a heartfelt shoutout to my beloved family for their unwavering support and love. To my daughter, Kailon, my son, Mark Jr, and my husband, Mark Sr., who inspire me every day; their strength and support are my pillars; to my sister, Desia, and my brother-in-law, Vageesh, for their constant encouragement and guidance. And to my mom, Bernice, whose love has been a guiding light in my life.

Their support is more than emotional; it is the bedrock of stability that fuels my courage to venture into uncharted territories of the business world. Knowing they are there, as my safety net, empowers me to take calculated risks and embrace innovation.

Additionally, a special shoutout to Corine Barnes (my BFF), the sounding board for my wildest ideas and the voice of reason when I navigate through challenges. Her belief in my vision not only fuels my determination but also instills a sense of confidence that is crucial for any business owner.

Lastly, I want to express my deepest gratitude and love to my late father, Eddie. He always spoiled me with love, instilled in me the belief that I can achieve anything I set my mind to, and never ceased to say, ‘You never fail to amaze me.’ His spirit continues to guide and inspire me in every venture I undertake.

My family is the unseen force behind my entrepreneurial spirit. Their influence is interwoven into every aspect of my business, from its values to its vision. They are my silent partners, my advisors, my cheerleaders, and my sanctuary. Their impact transcends the boundaries of personal and professional life, making my business journey a shared adventure, rich with love, learning, and growth.
