We had the good fortune of connecting with Dejanell Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dejanell, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I would definitely say the most important decision I made that contributed to my success was, I knew I was going to make a way for kids by any means. I knew I had to go hard so they wouldn’t experience any of the struggles that I’ve ever experienced. Every decision I make career wise, I make sure it’s will always be beneficial for my kids and I.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started off Pamper Me Spa with just myself straight out of esthetician school. I’ve always had so much drive and ambition that sometimes I scared myself but one thing about me I’m gone do what I say I’m gone do everytime!
One day I posted my work on Twitter which I never really do, I would always post on Instagram but once I posted on Twitter that was it. I went to sleep with about 500 followers on Instagram and woke up to 5,000+ followers and was literally booked until the next year. It did not feel real at all, with all the traffic that I was bringing in I was able to bring my mom along and she quit her job and started living out her passion. We are now a mother-daughter business! We made 4 years in May! It was not an easy journey I gave up and started over many of times before I went viral on Twitter.
I’ve learned along the way to never give up and just keep going! Never think about what if it don’t go right, think about what if it does! Stepping out on faith was one of the greatest things I could have ever done!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I be honest, I don’t go out as much. I’m always working or in mommy/wife mode but I told myself I’m going to start taking some time to myself.
So with that being said if I had a friend that came to visit, we’re definitely going to do brunch. I love to eat some good food! We would also go to a spa, have some girl/quality time! I just want to be around good people and vibes. Im real big on vibes so if it’s not a vibe, im not interested.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve always had a few people in my corner, they know who they are! Thankyou for always being there and encouraging me to keep going, even when I felt like I couldn’t!
