We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denise, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was not looking forward to starting this organization, Even though I knew what God was telling me to do, I knew that this was going to be a large task and I didn’t feel adequate to be able to accomplish it. It was very nerve wrecking especially at a point in my life when I was craving stability and a since of consistency. I knew it needed to be done and God was calling-me to do it. The best way to describe it would be that I felt like God had his foot on my neck. It was the fist thing on my mind when I woke up and the last thing on m mind before going to bed, I knew God was calling me to move forward.
We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others.
We are a non profit that focuses on empowering African American Missionaries. There are many agencies but non that focus on the African American population.
What you are most proud of or excited about?
We are one of a handful of black agencies. Maybe 10 in the entire united stated. So I am excited that we are infrequent and helping with the normalization of black missions agencies.
How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
A lot of trial and error and no it was not easy but we are here now. Our organization is one of very few but we have found like minded people and organizations that have come along side us to help nurture us as a “baby” organization.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
You can function alone but with a team you will soar. I am still a very small organization and we are still in the team building process but we have come a long way. I want the world to know that everything we do is for the glory of God, I consult him in all things that we do and we are covered in prayer.
