We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Swauger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desiree, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We were making charcuterie boards all the time for gatherings (pre charcuterie pandemic boom) and one of us said, “people would buy these if we made them!”. A month passed by and we basically started with our name, logo, crafted a stage board and off we went!

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets Cutie Charcuterie apart from other businesses is the way we can theme boards to events and the way we create our boards. We have an exact method to where they always look a certain way and people recognize it. It took a lot of critiquing on our end to perfect it but once we had it it’s stayed consistent. We got to where we are through manyyy hours, up at 2am or midnight, juggling full time careers as well, we made this business a non negotiable to succeeding and it reflects our efforts.
What we would want people to know about our business is we never half do anything. We really put our heart into everything so that at their events, their guests are wow’d. We want it to be a topic of conversation not just as a wow factor but that’s how our business continues!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are restaurant FOODIES so Mad is a great place, Pier 6, and Eculent. We love an “experience” and not just an in and out dining hour.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
No outward credit exactly but really just recognizing what two best friends built together, through many trials and tribulations, no business skills, from scratch, how far we took our business! Just how proud we are of ourselves juggling this full time business AND having full time careers also. We didn’t take no for an answer and no excuses were allowed. We made everything happen to make our business go further than we ever expected.
