We had the good fortune of connecting with Desteni Ard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desteni, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own Pilates studio was a decision rooted in both passion and purpose. I’ve always been deeply committed to health and wellness, and Pilates has been a transformative part of my own journey—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Over time, I realized that I wanted to share that experience with others in a more meaningful way.

I noticed a gap in my local community—either studios felt too impersonal, lacked proper instruction, or didn’t foster the kind of welcoming, supportive environment I envisioned. That sparked the idea: what if I created a space that combined expert instruction with a strong sense of community and individualized attention?

I knew starting a business would come with risks, but the idea of building something of my own that aligned with my values was more exciting than intimidating. I began researching locations, refining my service offerings, thinking through client experience, and creating a brand that truly reflected what I wanted people to feel when they walked through the door.

Ultimately, my goal was (and still is) to help people feel stronger, more connected to their bodies, and empowered in their everyday lives—and owning a studio gave me the freedom and platform to do just that.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey into Pilates started with a personal passion for movement, wellness, and helping others feel strong and empowered in their own bodies. What began as a love for the practice evolved into a calling—one that led me to pursue certification, deepen my knowledge, and ultimately open a space that felt personal, intentional, and welcoming.

But the path wasn’t always easy. Like many who choose to start their own business, there were moments of doubt, fear, and uncertainty. What truly carried me through were the people around me—my incredible clients, family, and friends. Their belief in me was unwavering, even when I had a hard time believing in myself. They saw the vision before I did, and their encouragement gave me the strength to turn that vision into something real.

What sets my studio apart is the community we’ve built—and it’s not just me. I’ve been fortunate to bring on an amazing team of talented instructors who each bring their own energy, expertise, and heart to the space. Together, we’ve created something truly special.

While Pilates is at the core of what we do, we offer so much more. Our studio is home to a wide variety of group fitness classes, including barre, TRX, yoga, and more. We believe in providing movement options for every body and every level—so that everyone who walks through our doors can find what works for them and feel welcome doing it.

I’m most proud of creating something from the ground up that reflects who I am and what I value—authentic connection, holistic health, and empowerment through movement.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that growth often comes through discomfort. The setbacks, the uncertainty, and the hard days—they all shaped me into the business owner and instructor I am today. I’ve learned to trust the process, lean into community, and never underestimate the power of belief—both in yourself and in others.

What I want the world to know is this: my studio is more than a business. It’s a reflection of a dream, a journey, and a deep desire to help people feel their absolute best. And I’m just getting started.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend came to visit for a week, I’d make sure they had the absolute best time. We live on the lake in the most charming little town—full of character, great food, and even better views.

We’d kick things off with some downtime on the deck at Lakeside Oasis, sipping martinis and soaking in that gorgeous lake view. One night, we’d definitely head to The Bullet—where we’d swing out on the golf simulator and enjoy Steak Night (a must!). Of course, a trip wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Big Fish for one of their unbeatable burgers.

We’d hit all the local coffee shops, because honestly, they’re on point—perfect for catching up and soaking in the small-town charm. And to really treat ourselves, we’d book a little self-care session at Revival Drip Bar for a facial and IV hydration, then head to Heavenly Hands for the most relaxing massage ever.

Whether we’re lounging by the pool or out on the lake, every moment would be full of laughter and connection. And truthfully, there are so many cool and fun places to enjoy here, one week wouldn’t be enough. It would be a time to remember, no doubt.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My clients are truly the heart of my success. Their unwavering support, loyalty, and encouragement gave me the confidence to take the leap and open my own Pilates studio. Many have followed me through this journey, stood by my side, and believed in me—especially in the moments when I struggled to believe in myself.

I’m endlessly grateful for the community we’ve built together.

A special thank you to my family, friends, and clients—your belief in me helped turn a dream into reality. I wouldn’t be here without you.
