We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiney Gillespie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destiney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Hello! I’m so excited to be interviewing with you all today. It’s a pleasure!
The thought process behind starting my own business came from the idea of me being able to redefine the relationships women have with themselves and how I could change the trajectory of what society has put in place. There’s a stigma that women must live a certain way, act a certain way, or be a certain way to live abundantly and intentionally. Intentional living can look different for everyone. The key is finding what makes you happy, and building upon that. I ultimately wanted to just help women win personally, and spiritually.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my company is All Things Destiney The Brand. I started this company in late 2018 with the intent to overall just help women in all areas of their life. From inspirational speaking, a successful podcast series, to an apparel brand that is rapidly growing. While rebranding in late 2020, I managed to bring in over 10K in just a little under 4 months. I believe what sets me apart is that I’m real, raw, and unapologetic in my approach to help women break the barriers and ceilings that society has tried to limit us to. I’m very passionate about what I do. Yes, the money is great, but it isn’t the only motive. I am purpose driven, and if I could just genuinely help one individual, then that means more to me than money. Because the seed is planted and by helping others you’re now apart of that legacy. I believe got to where I am today by being genuine without any foul motives, God, and, A LOT of hustle and grit. I became a mother at 16 years old and ever since then, I’ve always had something to prove. The road to success is never easy, so of course my journey is no different. I endured a lot of hardships but I never let them define my future or who I am. I truly believe that the experiences we endure are not just for us but to help others. If it’s one thing I learned from life, is that when it throws you lemons you better figure out a way to make chocolate cake! I want the world to know that my brand is built off the strength of making sure women feel empowered and motivated to conquer the world! No matter what! women are so powerful and I’m determined to help as many as I can see that!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever I would take them to Midtown, Uptown, Eado, Rice Village and Downtown. I’m all for trying new places to eat, so honestly we would be going anywhere the vibe is. One place we would go for sure is the Turkey Leg Hut!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
