We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Since the age of 15, I’ve always worked. If I told you how many jobs I’ve had, you’d swear I was lying to you. It didn’t take me long to realize that working an “average job” wasn’t for me. Being a minority I knew that It would take a lot for me to climb up the corporate ladder, despite what I brought to the table. Employers knew my worth before I really did. Why would I allow someone to use me, my knowledge and innovative ideas to help them make billions ? This was the question I asked myself that finally made me realize if I don’t work for myself, I’m cheating myself! I knew starting a business would take a lot. Brainstorming ideas, financial investing, sacrifices, budgeting and patience, yet I was still determined and excited. I was passionate and every successful person will tell you that, “if you don’t have passion, you will become frustrated and fail”. I knew that I wanted to produce products I could stand behind 100% something I too would use on a daily basis. Lipgloss, you would never catch me without it. In school, friends would sing “my lipgloss is poppin” by lil mama when they would see me. This was it , it’s what people thought of when they saw me , I was a walking ad for glossy lips, so I decided to make it myself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What’s so unique about BarbieFaceBoutique is that we provide everyday products at a cheaper than drugstore price , our quality is unmatched & we’re constantly evolving by adding new products. Since launching this January we’ve released a lash collection, scrunchies (for your inner VSCO girl) necklaces, bling hair clips , sunglasses and more. Our lipgloss is not average, we provide pigment that you can actually see. Yes lipgloss is sheer but you should still be able to see what you get in the tube, on your lips. Most competitors can’t say the same. We use basic squeeze tubes for quick application and maximum color payoff! Yes, not having a fancy pretty tube is kind of a bust , but it’s a sacrifice we’ve made to provide a quality product and to cut production costs which also, indeed, cuts consumers costs! Additionally each and every package is always wrapped differently giving every customer “the best gift ever” experience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is a GEM when it comes to eateries and attractions. An ideal weekend in the city would be, brunch at Seabrook Waffle Co. they have great custom Belgian waffles & a aesthetic outdoor seating area. Definitely an outdoor workout , discovery green , Galveston beach are great places to go for a run. Health is wealth. Of course celebrating the weeks work with a shopping trip is a must ! Galleria or outlet mall in cypress is a go-to! After I work up an appetite from walking all day Glorias Latin cuisine ! Get the pupusas , they’re amazing plus it’s always happy hour there ! After a afternoon nap were fired up and ready to go out. I’m preferably a bar > club gal. So, voodoo hut it is ! Great music, good people in a safe part of town!

I have to give all the glory to God himself , he poured into me when I felt I had nothing to give. He gave me endless encouragement and reassurance throughout my entire journey. Aside I love every single one of my customers my “BARBIE ARMY” they believed in me as a small business.
