We had the good fortune of connecting with DeVawn Abbie Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DeVawn Abbie, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Honesty is a principle that holds immense value for me, as it encompasses a multitude of virtues and fosters genuine connections with others. When I prioritize honesty, I am committed to not merely telling people what they want to hear, but rather, sharing what is best for them, even if it may be uncomfortable or challenging. Honesty is like a mirror that reflects the truth, allowing individuals to grow, learn, and make informed decisions. Moreover, it builds a foundation of trust and authenticity in relationships, enabling open communication and a deeper understanding of one another. Embracing honesty not only encourages self-reflection and personal growth but also promotes a sense of integrity and accountability. It serves as a guiding compass, guiding me towards a life of transparency, empathy, and personal fulfillment.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a licensed Aesthetician, I am passionate about customizing every service to cater to the unique needs of each client. My expertise lies in skin care, and I take pride in providing honest advice and recommendations to help my clients achieve their desired results. My facials stand out from the rest as I incorporate a lot of hand work, and I take the time to educate my clients on what products and techniques I am using and why. I do not follow a one-size-fits-all approach and believe in providing personalized solutions that are healthy and effective. Moreover, I am result-driven but also understand the importance of relaxation, massage, and muscle work. I have perfected the art of waxing and have developed a method that ensures a more pleasant and less painful experience. Overall, I am committed to offering a unique and exceptional experience to my clients that will leave them feeling rejuvenated and confident. Being a business owner and a single mom of two was one of the scariest and most challenging decisions I’ve ever made. I had to take a leap of faith and trust that everything would work out, despite the many obstacles that came my way. It was a constant balancing act between work and home life, but my passion for my kids kept me going.
There were many times when I felt like giving up, but every time I saw a client leave my treatment room feeling confident and beautiful, it reminded me why I started this business in the first place. It was worth every sacrifice and every sleepless night.
Being in the esthetic business has been the best six years of my life. I have been able to create the life that I always dreamed of for myself and my children. It has given me the flexibility to be there for my kids when they need me while also pursuing my passion for skincare.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The ultimate BFF getaway, Houston has it all! I would start off The week with a CityPass, which gives you access to some of the city’s top attractions such as the Space Center Houston, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and the Houston Zoo. After exploring the city, head to the beautiful beaches along the Gulf Coast for a day of sun, sand, and relaxation. To add a touch of sophistication to her visit, indulge in a wine tasting experience at one of Houston’s renowned wineries and vineyards. Savor the flavors of locally produced wines while enjoying the scenic views of the vineyards. Sine we are shopaholics, a visit to the Galleria is a must. This upscale shopping mall offers a wide range of high-end brands and designer boutiques. End your week with a visit to the thriving arts scene in Houston. Explore the Museum of Fine Arts and discover a vast collection of artwork spanning various periods and styles. I would also want her to check out the trendy art districts like the Houston Arts District and the Heights, where you can find galleries showcasing local talent and unique art installations. My best friend will have a week filled with adventure, relaxation, culture, and unforgettable memories.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am grateful for the incredible support I have received from my family, church community, and clients. In particular, I want to thank my sister, Deonna Walker, and my brother-in-law, Rob Walker, for their assistance in moving myself and my two children six hours away from Abilene to the Houston area. Without their support, I would not have been able to open Abbie Aesthetics in Sugarland, Texas. I am grateful for every client that has walked through my doors and entrusted me with their skin. I am also grateful for the support of my family and friends who have been there for me every step of the way. Being a business owner and a single mom of two was not easy, but it was worth it. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything in the world.
