Meet Dexter Walker | Actor & Motivational Influencer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dexter Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dexter, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Houston, Tx. Growing up…my childhood wasn’t as greener on the other side. I was raised as a foster child for about 12 years or so. Being in the system sort of made me question myself on surviving. I would get relocated to another home if the placement wasn’t safe enough for me and that was tough on me as well. I would have to adapt to a new environment every 6 months or so which was kind of a bummer. I wasn’t able to explore what I wanted in life because of the way the system treated me. Seeing others my age in the system fail so badly without any guidance…motivated me to want more out of life. I pushed , I pushed, and I pushed and continue to push for better things in life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an actor and I love what I do. I’m currently employed as a Retail Assistant Manager being with the company for at least 2 years. My main focus, is taking my career to the next level. I’m mostly proud of the accomplishments I’ve made over the years with my talent. I struggled to find the right connection many years. It wasn’t easy at all for the most part. I was so caught up on doing everything on my own…My pride allowed me to push people away because I thought everybody was just trying to scheme. Until I realize that networking and connection was the key.. The Community I started to just come around helped a lot with bringing all artist and creators together. The organization is called Rising Artist HTX. I want to give a shout-out to them as well for allowing talented individual to become more open. I want people out there to know that having pride can be good and bad. But don’t let it push the people that genuinely help you bring the greater side of you out . Believe it or not…we all have a better version of ourselves. We just have to explore it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say the Breakfast Klub downtown. I say that because that place gives me a soul feeling like no other. And I love the idea that they named it a Klub. They have this long line that will be wrapped to other side of the street and you can just talk and laugh with your family friends while waiting to be called in for dine in. Also The Waffle bus.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout to Mr Errol Jones he was my mentor for business/Entrepreneur when I was 14. Without him I wouldn’t know most of the stuff I knew about marketing and saling.
S.Banks was my Mentor/Coach
He reminded me that excuses are monuments of nothingness. If there is something that I want in life. I have to get up and go get it. It wasn’t coming to me at all.
