We had a good fortune connecting with Dien Tran who is the owner of Dien Mint Photography and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dien, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
In September 2022, I embarked on a journey to establish my own photography business, named Dien Mint Photography. As the venture unfolded, several key factors emerged as pivotal contributors to my success and the establishment of a formidable brand. At the core of my triumph is the distinctive style and client nurturing relationships. My style is very true to color while enhancing natural beauty, but at the same time minimizing unnecessary distractions. Crafting images that resonate with emotion and captivate the viewer’s attention, I have managed to carve out a niche for myself in a competitive industry. However, success in the photography business extends beyond technical prowess. My commitment to building and nurturing client relationships has been instrumental. Through effective communication and a keen understanding of client needs, I have not only met but exceeded expectations. This dedication to exceptional customer service has fostered loyalty and garnered positive word-of-mouth referrals. For me, what have been one of the greatest factor for growth was maintaining a friendly relationship with other photographers in this competitive industry. As my business started out, I actively seek for collaboration and networking events where I met many creatives and formed a beautiful connection with them. Now many of those creatives have become a valuable customer of mine.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Strategic marketing and branding have played a crucial role in establishing Dien Mint Photography as a recognizable and reputable brand. I got this name brand from just looking into my personal life and recognized what was important to me. Well! It’s me! My middle name is Minh and I enjoy nature so freaking much. I love seeing a beautiful scene. It gets me every time and gives me the butterflies effect. And that’s where Dien Mint Photography came from. From the beginning, I knew branding was going to be an important part in my business. Green is my favorite color and I soon showed my followers just that. You would see me wearing green in all of my photoshoot as well as any tiktok or reels that I posted. A well-designed website, a strong social media presence, and consistent branding that reflects my unique style and values have collectively contributed to my business’s visibility and reach. My proudest achievement in my photography business lies in the profound connections I have forged with my clients. Beyond the lens and the artistry that defines Dien Mint Photography, I take immense pride in the emotional resonance my work has had with those who have entrusted me to capture their most cherished moments. The ability to translate the essence of someone’s stories into visual narratives that evoke joy, nostalgia, and sentimentality is what fuels my passion. So how I work is that: I would give my clients prompts instead of poses because everyone interpret prompts differently which creates uniquely beautiful stories catered to every individuals.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When introducing a friend to Houston, I would undoubtedly curate an experience that highlights the city’s diverse offerings. Starting in downtown Houston, I would guide my friend through the heart of the city’s urban landscape. The iconic Houston skyline, dominated by sleek skyscrapers, would be the backdrop to a stroll through Discovery Green, a vibrant urban park hosting events, public art installations, and providing a serene escape within the bustling city. For a nature-infused photoshoot, I would then lead my friend to Buffalo Bayou, a sprawling green oasis in the heart of Houston. The park’s vast landscapes, walking trails, and scenic spots offer a picturesque setting for capturing both candid and composed moments. The vibrant colors of the park, especially during sunrise or sunset, provide me with an ideal canvas for photography, creating visually stunning images that reflect the dynamic beauty of Houston.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I’d like to say thank you to myself for pushing through. I knew a 7-4 work life is not my end goal, so I decided my buy a new camera and 2 lenses to start out. I held on to the receipt just in case I had second thoughts. I did think about quitting a couple of times, but so glad I pushed through and decided to give photography and business owning a fair chance. I also want to thank all of my friends and family who trusted me at the beginning and volunteered to be my “model victim”. Their cooperation and encouragement really lit a fire under me to get me going
