We had the good fortune of connecting with Dolly Lace and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dolly, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe that if you don’t take the risk than you might never see the reward. If you try and fail at least you can say you tried. This is the mentality I had when I decided to start my business and this is the mentality I have now. I knew nothing about running a business but I knew if I didn’t take the chance then I could never see what could be. Even if a risk leads to a mistake that mistake could be turned into a learning lesson.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ever since I saw my first burlesque show I was inspired by the artistry and beauty behind such a sensual performance. It was my dream to one day to be on that stage, however when looking into troupes to join I realized I wasn’t a fit due to my personality or my appearance. I wanted to be a part of a troupe where everyone was a unique individual and had their own style of dance and costume. My diverse group of performers aren’t afraid to embrace the campy nature of Burlesque and not solely focus on the sex appeal.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a huge fan of the MidTown area. There’s a lot of really good food there and super fun and interesting bars that are all within walking distance. Unicorn Disco is probably my favorite bar within MidTown to hit up because I am able to get good flavorful drinks while dancing to remixes of great 80s music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t have any success in this if it wasn’t for the individuals who decided to join me in this crazy venture. They took the risk with me and gave me the support I needed to believe in my buisness. I wouldn’t be able to run a burlesque troupe with burlesque dancers, stage assistance, and the audience who cheers us on.
