We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominic Stephen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominic, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
That’s simple. I want to be the greatest to ever do it. That’s with everything in my life. I’m putting 100% into everything I’m doing from creative projects to business endeavors even down to just working out and being healthy. They say how you do one thing is how you do everything so I give it my all. You remember that crazy run Lil Wayne had from 2008 into the 2010’s where he was literally on every song on the radio and everything he did was untouchable? That’s literally what I’m on right now I want to become an unstoppable force. I feel as I keep leveling up and becoming my best version I can help the entire population whether it be giving back to communities or just inspiring other people to break through the chains of fear and insecurity in today’s society to raise up and become the best versions of themselves. I feel like that will just be a infinite domino effect of people getting inspired and self developing which will ultimately help everyone in this world even after I’m long gone off of this earth.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What’s crazy is I’ve had Shexo in my mind ever since I was about 17 which was 7 years ago. I still have sketches of designs from 2016 in my old sketchbook. I’ve always explored online businesses from dropshipping to flipping shoes & designer clothes ever since I was in high school so starting this brand was like 2nd nature to me. Why it took so long for me to start it was just me really just finding myself and going through trials and tribulations in life which sort of forced me to express myself creatively through different outlets. Growing up in the trenches of Detroit my whole life forced me to grow up fast and give me the mental fortitude to push through pretty much any adversity thrown at me. My own family kicked me out the house and put me in a homeless shelter and that’s just a small drop in the bucket of everything I’ve been through in life from heartbreak to betrayal to looking death in the face multiple times. I stayed true to the vision no matter the circumstances and transmuted all that pain into my creative passions and now I’m here. Blocking out all outside noise and turning inward and bringing out a child like state where I’m constantly creating & imagining infinite possibilities helped me get through a lot of those challenges. What sets Shexo apart from other brands is my fearlessness to do any and everything different. Eventually I want to have exclusive rare NFT drops of the clothes that you can wear in the metaverse and limited edition physical clothes that will get sent to you in real life alongside purchase of the NFT. This is just the beginning of my creative output. I have plans for music, clothes, YouTube videos, digital art, real estate etc. Anything you can name I’m doing it. There is no limit to anything in this life. You might see a Shexo city in 2050 who knows.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve actually lived in 3 cities throughout the past couple years. My hometown Detroit, Charlotte and Atlanta so I’ll give you a experience from all 3. In the downtown area of Detroit we have the #1 rated river walk in the U.S with a beautiful waterfront strip with a crazy view of Windsor Canada right across the Hudson River so we would for sure go there to enjoy the breeze and vibes of Motown. Then we’re flying to Charlotte, North Carolina where I currently reside which is one of the fastest growing cities they’re constantly building modern upscale apartments and have so many fire food spots. We’re definitely hitting up Fahrenheit which is a rooftop restaurant on top of a hyatt hotel and condos overlooking the entire Uptown. The pink and purple skyline view from the top of that building is just a different experience. For the next stop we’re taking a 4 hour road trip from Charlotte to Atlanta which I feel like is my 2nd home. Downtown ATL has a strip called the belt line that’s a long walk route with shops & restaurants that has a skatepark in it. We’re out there busting tricks having fun getting a good workout in. After that we’re driving out about 16 minutes away from the belt line to Buckhead, Atlanta’s wealthiest city. We’re going to Lenox Mall and Phillips Plaza spending a unreasonable amount of money at Prada, Louis Vuitton and Saks Fifth. You’re probably going to run into someone famous like Lil Baby or Future out there. I don’t think there was a time in buckhead where I didn’t see some viral influencer or rapper shopping around or just chilling in a Lamborghini. Lastly, we would end the day going to a legendary Atlanta spot called Slutty Vegan. They have the best vegan burger I’ve ever tasted and the way the staff interacts with customers is a very intimate and comforting experience. Southern hospitality at its finest.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a shoutout to everything in life that tried to pull me down while I was climbing to the top. It gave me the resistance I needed to turn up and become a beast creatively. I gotta shoutout the one and only Bob Proctor (Rest in Peace) he actually helped write the book “The Secret” I learned a lot about the law of attraction and the subconscious mind from him that helped me rewire my brain for success. Shout out to trap music, 2012 Tumblr, skateboarding & Grailed. I’ve always loved fashion, design and music since I was a kid and all these things helped inspire me through the years. Oh and I can’t forget the most important shoutout of all time. All praises to the most high God. I couldn’t do anything I’m doing without putting God first.
