We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominica Briscoe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominica, what do you attribute your success to?
I’m still defining what success is in my career as a designer for my leather boutique, 3 Degrees Runway. This may sound cliché, but once I started being authentically me, allowing my personality to show in my designs, and sharing the positive feedback & interactions with my customer base; business has been on the rise. To a few, my bubbly personality can come off as extra but it’s not the case. I am a colorful individual and get excited over the smallest of things and I want to share my excitement. Allowing my energy to come off naturally opened the flood gates of design ideas and how I will expand the business. People will buy from a brand they trust and will refer a company based on good quality and customer service. All of this is connected to being authentically me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Having the creative freedom to design what comes to mind is so exciting. I keep a sketchpad of my designs and haven’t touched the surface of what I’ve drafted. Do you realize how exciting that is? Having an abundance of ideas and the ability to see the sketches come to life, then seeing customers purchasing and loving their leather goods from 3 Degrees Runway; from designs I drafted. My God.
I recently started working with European vendors behind the scenes which will allow me to offer even more options with leather products.
The next challenge will be finding a manufacturer that will allow me to offer more to my customers. I’ll be sharing the journey via IG at @3_Degrees_Runay and maybe my YouTube channel on what it looks like finding the best manufacturer.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooooh, this is a hard question. The Houston restaurant scene has grown in the last few years. Now that the city is slowing opening back up, I’m catching up to the places on my list that I want to visit. But I’d recommend a few places to relax and people watch on a patio that has a nice whiskey selection.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My community is small and intimate. Every one of them has contributed to various aspects of my life as a designer and owner. Some of the popular items in my store came from commissioned items made for my stylist and clients.
Now I’m in the phase of expanding and navigating with adding staff to support the increase and demand. My close girlfriends have years of experience with having a staff, so hearing their advice is quite valuable. I’ve thanked them privately plenty of times.
I have to shout out my customer base, because without them I would not have seen the business grow as fast as it has. Their referrals and repeat purchases are priceless. They are the ones who make my bags look good. Now don’t get me wrong, all my items look exquisite, but they look better coming from a customer raving about how much they love their purchase and them showing off their collection.
