We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In college, I took several Marketing courses where we had to do a mock trial of selling a home as a real estate agent. This required research about a property, getting to know the client, and fitting the designs and features of a home to the needs and wants of our client. I always enjoyed giving these presentations. But never thought twice about the career itself.

After graduation, it was difficult for me to decide which career field I wanted to venture into. While I was in the midst of figuring out what it is I wanted to do, I decided to write and publish a book. It was such a creative experience. Taking words from my thoughts, placing them on paper, and watching them come to life in a bound book. It also pushed me, marketing-wise. I had to create my own social media platforms. I hosted book launches. I networked with people within my field to increase the exposure of my book. All of that helped me to realize how much I missed marketing and sales.

I wanted to be challenged. I wanted a career where I could constantly be on the go, doing what I love, networking with others, and bringing a great product to those who could benefit from it. In that time of reflection, it took me back to my Marketing courses in college. It reminded me of a one-hour course where I got to do just that.

At the time, I was working as an assistant manager for a lash studio. I conversed with my husband and he fully supported my next steps. I quit my full-time job and immediately enrolled in Champions School of Real Estate. I decided that if I was going to pursue this career, I needed to give it my all. I completed all required course work, hours, and review classes in five weeks. Two months into my decision of becoming a real estate agent, I passed my exam on the first try and acquired my license. A week after that, I joined Entourage Real Estate Brokerage. I knew that moment was just the beginning, There was still work to be done to build my business.

The journey to becoming a real estate professional was daring. I was a year out of college and a few months into a new marriage. But I felt called in that direction and I took off in a sprint. That is how I have continued my business thus far. With full commitment, determination, and the love of the grind.

However, this career will be more than just networking and showing houses. I will utilize this career to also establish generational wealth, provide knowledge about the benefits of ownership, and assist those who set real estate goals.

What should our readers know about your business?
“Find your place to stay with DJ” is what I am all about. It entails so much more than just finding the perfect house. It is me communicating with my present and future clientele, that regardless of your price point, house preferences, and what stage of life you are buying your home in, it is YOUR place that I will help you find.

Everyone has different starting points when it comes to purchasing, leasing, selling, or investing in their home. The purpose of that property could be a starter home, a dream home, a home to gain supplemental income, or downsizing home.

I assist with the entire process. That includes the process before the offer is made or the contract is drawn up. I have networked with credit recovery specialists, a handful of loan originators, mechanical and pest inspectors, new home builders, and more.

I have assisted first-time home buyers and have been one myself. I understand the many questions and concerns that come with making such a big investment for yourself. I have expanded my portfolio to contain connections with loan originators who specialize in assisting teachers, nurses, and doctors. I have become knowledgeable about loan programs that can assist with down payment assistance and closing costs. I have stayed in close contact with home builders who can offer my clients great incentives.

Finding your place to stay with me, is a journey. A journey that I make unique for each of my clients. I create plans, provide products, and assist everyone in their own needed way.

This is my brand that I want to continue being an enjoyed one. Find your place to stay with DJ!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love food. So, any weekend that is meant to be fun, has to include great food! I would head downtown and have a day where we could explore new restaurants, sightseeing, and relaxation in the many beautiful parks Houston has to offer.

I would hit Rice Village, park our car, and walk around. There are so many cute boutiques, dessert shops, and unique eateries. Following that, I would enjoy a few hours of a nice spa day.

Lastly, I would enjoy a nice movie at a rooftop bar and screening. Enjoy a couple of drinks, a great film, and relax in nice weather.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give all glory, credit, and endless thanks to God. He saw me in this career before I even pictured it for myself. He aligned so many paths for me to cross, so that I may get to this stage of life. He supported and made possible the decisions I took to fully invest myself as a Real Estate Agent. Without His blessings, Hand of Protection, and His permission, I would not have succeeded. When I sat down and created my goals for my first year of real estate, I prayed over them. I know that the only way I will make it into 2023 shouting praises of accomplishing my goals, is because God saw my journey through and blessed its every stage.

Secondly, I want to highlight my amazing, supportive, loving, best husband in the world. He pushes me to be the best version of myself. When I was merely contemplating a career change, he spoke its success into existence and motivated me to fully invest myself. When I questioned whether to be a part-time or full-time professional, he decided that I should be full-time, like it was a no-brainer. He makes me feel confident to take my steps. He also wears many hats. He is the marketing team who created my business slogan: “Find your place to stay with DJ.” He is the photographer/videographer who assists me in creating content for my social media. He is the HR department that handles all breakdowns when I stress myself out or become discouraged. He is a fully invested spouse and I love him for everything he does to support my dream.

Lastly, I want to thank my friends, other families, and Marla Lewis who is my broker. My friends and family were the first closings I had within the first couple of months as a realtor. I was able to trial and error with them as well as become more confident in the process of buying/selling a home. My broker, Marla Lewis, has continually trained me, supported my goals, and allowed me to ask over a million questions.

Thank you all for being the best support group a realtor could have.
