We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Welch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process of starting my own business was in essence to provide an affordable service to people that want to have their own definition of Royal Beauty. For example I have Alopecia Areata, I’ve had it since I was 11 years old. I remember my mom struggling to find products for me and the products of good quality were super expensive. I used to be a competitive cheerleader and I’m currently still a competitive dancer so my hair had to be on point and top tier. It was hard finding hair stylist that could style my hair so my older sister taught herself how to do hair in order for me to still be able to do the things I have so much passion for.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business Royal Beauty Hair Collection, located in Houston, Texas this a black owned business that supplies products like: Hair Bundles, Hair Extensions, Wigs and Mink Lashes to customers who have alopecia, cancer, or customers that just need to add a bit of Royal Flare to their charm. We have products at an affordable price so customers can purchase products and still have enough money to flaunt their own definition of Royal Beauty. We also have a hair styling portion of our business where we install Wigs or do styles for people who have Alopecia, Cancer, or for people who just want that extra flare. This was not an easy process. During this process, I had to overcome my fear of people shaming me because I’m a woman who’s totally bald. This process was also hard because I was going into this venture with no mentor, so I was really on my on. Lessons that I’ve learned along the way is to be consistent and work hard for what want nothing in life comes easy. I want the world to know that Royal Beauty Hair Collection is here to stay and service people that want to define their own kind of Royal Beauty..
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shout to my support system but most importantly my Mom and Brother Solomon for reminding that I’m beautiful even though my alopecia has taken all of my hair and just holding me up when I was broken and afraid to come out as person who has lost all of their hair to alopecia. I would also love to give a huge shout to my awesome sister Destiny for stepping up and taking on the challenge of styling my hair and be in my corner every step of the way.
