Meet Dr Kevin Kelly | Amazing Excel Instructor & Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr Kevin Kelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr Kevin, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As parents, the most important thing we have done—and continue to do—for our children is to show them the love of God and the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. More than words, we have sought to model a living faith: one that is grounded in Scripture, expressed through service, and sustained by trust in the Lord wherever He sends us. Our prayer has always been that our children would not simply inherit our beliefs, but personally know Christ, understand His grace, and walk confidently in their own relationship with Him.
Equally important, we have encouraged our children to think deeply and to present their arguments intelligently. We have taught them that faith and reason are not in conflict, and that truth does not fear honest questions. By allowing them to express their thoughts, wrestle with ideas, and articulate their convictions clearly, we aim to equip them to engage the world with wisdom, humility, and confidence.
Above all, we have emphasized respect—for people of every background and every opinion. We have taught our children to speak respectfully, listen carefully, and treat others with dignity, regardless of disagreement. Every person, without exception, is created in the image of God. Recognizing that truth shapes how we engage others: not as adversaries to be defeated, but as neighbors to be loved. Our hope is that our children will carry these principles with them wherever God leads them, reflecting Christ in both conviction and compassion.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Analytics Doctor was founded out of a simple but powerful conviction: data should clarify decisions, not confuse them. Too often, organizations are overwhelmed by dashboards, metrics, and reports that generate noise instead of insight. What sets The Analytics Doctor apart is our focus on diagnosis before prescription. Just as in medicine, we take the time to understand the underlying problem before recommending solutions. Analytics is not about tools first—it’s about asking the right questions, aligning data with mission, and translating complexity into actionable truth.
What I am most proud of is that our work actually changes how leaders think and act. We don’t just deliver models or reports; we help organizations develop confidence in their decisions. Whether we are working with nonprofits, educational institutions, or businesses, our goal is the same: to bring clarity, integrity, and measurable impact to the table. I am especially excited about helping mission-driven organizations use analytics responsibly—ensuring that data serves people, not the other way around.
My path to where I am today was anything but easy or linear. It involved years of education, trial and error, moments of doubt, and more than a few hard lessons learned the long way. Building The Analytics Doctor required stepping into uncertainty, taking calculated risks, and often learning by doing. There were seasons where progress felt slow, resources were limited, and the outcome was far from guaranteed. I overcame those challenges by staying grounded in purpose, leaning on faith, listening carefully, and refusing to quit when things became uncomfortable. Perseverance mattered more than perfection.
Along the way, I’ve learned several key lessons. First, clarity beats complexity every time—especially in analytics. Second, credibility is built through consistency, humility, and honesty. Third, relationships matter more than transactions; trust is the real currency of meaningful work. And finally, success is never a solo endeavor. Behind every achievement is a community of people who support, challenge, and encourage you.
What I want the world to know about me and The Analytics Doctor is that we stand for thoughtful, ethical, and purpose-driven analytics. We believe data should illuminate truth, respect human dignity, and support wise stewardship. Our story is one of persistence, faith, and a deep commitment to helping others see more clearly—so they can lead more effectively and serve more faithfully.
At the end of the day, The Analytics Doctor exists not just to analyze data, but to help organizations make decisions they can stand behind—with confidence, clarity, and integrity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d want them to experience the best of Texas—its people, its energy, and its balance between work, family, and time outdoors.
We’d start in Houston, because that’s where the pulse is. If the Astros were in town, a night at Minute Maid Park would be non-negotiable. There’s nothing like baseball in Houston—the atmosphere, the fans, and the shared pride in the team. If it’s football season, we’d make time to tailgate and catch the Texans, because Sundays in Houston are about community as much as they are about the game. In between, we’d hit some classic local spots for food—great Tex-Mex, barbecue that requires patience, and a place where you can sit, talk, and not feel rushed.
Midweek, we’d slow things down and head south to the coast—Treasure Island in Freeport. That’s where perspective changes. Mornings would start early with coffee and the sound of the waves, followed by time on the beach. I’d take them out fishing, especially with my boys, because there’s something special about being on the water together—no screens, no noise, just conversation, patience, and the occasional big catch story that somehow gets bigger every time it’s told. Evenings would be simple: grilling, watching the sun go down, and letting the day end naturally.
We’d mix in some local coastal spots—fresh seafood, casual places where shoes are optional and nobody’s trying too hard. The kind of places where you stay longer than planned because the conversation is good and the setting makes you forget about the clock.
What makes the week memorable isn’t just the locations—it’s the people and the pace. Texas does both well: high-energy moments in the city and quiet, meaningful time by the water. The most interesting and exciting parts, in my view, are those shared experiences—cheering with a stadium full of strangers, teaching your kids to fish, laughing over a meal, and ending the day with sand on your feet and gratitude in your heart. That’s a great week anywhere, but it feels especially right here.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Much of my success as an entrepreneur is rooted not in strategy or circumstance, but in the people God placed in my life who shaped my character long before I ever built a company. The foundation was laid by my grandmother, Gladys Pollak, who was tenacious, tough, and deeply loving. She understood that perseverance is not optional—it is essential. Through her example, I learned that obstacles are not signals to quit, but invitations to press forward with resolve, integrity, and faith. Her strength was steady, her love unwavering, and her influence lasting.
My mother, Kathy Preston, continued that legacy in her own way. She was consistently supportive—sometimes after taking the time to fully understand what I was trying to say—but always willing to listen, encourage, and stand with me. She gave me the space to think, to speak, and to grow, even when my ideas were still forming. Her patience helped me find clarity, and her support gave me confidence. She taught me that being heard often begins with learning how to communicate clearly and thoughtfully.
Most importantly, my journey would not be possible without my wife, Joani Kelly. She is my constant source of encouragement and strength. She would walk through fire for me without hesitation, and she does so daily in quieter, more profound ways—through her belief in me, her prayers, her honesty, and her steadfast partnership. She challenges me to be better, supports me when the road is hard, and reminds me why the work matters. And yes, she appreciates—well, generously tolerates and occasionally enjoys—my sarcasm. Her love, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment are the anchor that keeps me grounded and the force that enables me to keep moving forward.
Together, these women shaped not just my success as an entrepreneur, but the man I strive to be—guided by faith, strengthened by perseverance, and sustained by love.
