We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Krupa George and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Krupa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always knew I wanted to be a owner dentist! I just didn’t know what type of dentist I wanted to be. When I started working clinically I knew I wanted to help get people to health, and I thought, “What better way to do that than work with underpriveleged communities!” I served as a pediatric dentist for the first 3 years after earning my license, but I noticed a structural problem. There are several limiting factors in doing great dentistry when funding comes from government sources. Ultimately, lower quality materials and decreased ability to spend time focusing on patients meant that many patients would return to our clinics for similar and preventable problems. This caused a lot of frustration and motivated me to create an office that is truly focused on the customer’s journey to health.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I designed Pure Holistic Dental to be exactly that. We are a health focused dental office with zero known toxins or sub-par materials used. We are fluoride free, BPA-free, and metal free in all of our restorations. What sets us apart is our belief system of “Educate, Advocate, and Empower”-ing Patients. We focus on educating patients about their options, advocating for change in other dental offices, and empowering them to make their own decisions to control their health.

Was it easy!? Heck no! It took a lot of heart, sweat, and grit to get this business off the ground. I had been planning for this office for almost 2 years before we opened our doors. Also, we opened right in the middle of a global pandemic which did not help! I saw my first patient for Pure Holistic Dental in Feb of 2020. After the Texas dental shut-downs, mandated quarantines, and other issues were over, I saw my second patient in June 2020!

The silver lining of the pandemic was that it encouraged patients to focus on their own health and take control. I had many patients come to me for care and open discussion about hteir options.

I’ve learned so many lessons along the way including that you must trust in yourself and in your team. We all have to work together to deliver the highest quality work to patients. Secondly, I’ve learned that entrepreneurship is extremely difficult. There is one issue that pops up after another. It truly is like building the plane while flying it. You have to have grit and determination to get anywhere.

I want the world to know that we are here for them. Our goal is not to do the most dentistry. Our goal is to help patients reach their goals when it comes to health. That means spending more time with them, giving them our full and focused attention, and doing our best to educate them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston is a fantastic place to visit with lots of exciting things to do. I’m a foodie and I love the outdoors so I would probably do a mix of both things. From an outdoors perspective, I would take my friends to Spotts Park and to the Buffalo Bayou trail for sure. If we have time I’d love to take them to Lake Conroe and down to Cullinan Park in Sugar Land as well as Kemah. From a food perspective one week is not enough time. If you’re in Houston or Sugar Land you have to try restaurants like Traveler’s Table, Mahesh’s Kitchen, and (even though its a chain) Cava. I love the healthy food scene here as there’s always something fresh to eat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to first thank my husband Leslie who has supported me throughout the years. From coaching me on during dental school to pushing me to believe in myself and start my own office, he’s been there for me. He is smart, handsome, and amazing and I love him. I also want to thank my mentors that I’ve had along the way. Without the help of other biological dentists nationwide including Marilyn Jones, David Francis, Kelly Blodgett, and others, I would not be where I am.
