We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Peyton Vickers and Dr. Kelsy DeMelo N/A and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Peyton Vickers and Dr. Kelsy DeMelo, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Honestly, for the longest time I thought the harder and the more I worked the more successful I would be. A lot of people get caught up in those lies. I was exhausted, burnt-out, irritable and not that successful. It wasn’t until I started taking care of myself that the success came. I got blood work done, I focused on quality sleep, mindset, nutrition, health, fitness, etc. The whole, “sleep is for the weak” and the, “I’ll sleep when I’m dead” is so counterintuitive to me. I like to think, “Earn your sleep but sleep well.” Your success is completely dependent on your ABILITY and CAPACITY to work. A lot of people think health is just to prevent disease but it’s also VITAL in your ability to perform optimally physically and mentally.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The vision behind Advanced Programming Systems, started with us understanding the broken system for trainers and coaches.

Within a 4 trillion dollar industry, the education factor has fallen by the wayside for a majority of trainers & coaches. They have received their NASM, NSCA, ACE or a form of certification yet lack the tools to continue learning as their clients needs, body mechanics, and scope of wants adapts.

The development of APS was essential due to this critical flaw in the system. Trainers & Coaches need a system in place for continued education, new programming, client management, retention, sales and more.

We’re constantly updating our educational courses, community boards and our support systems. We also wanted to create a private social community called the APS Social Community that can be found on Apple and Google-Play. We wanted to create a community for like-minded, research-based coaches to surround each other and get questions answered in real-time. We host coaches discussions, case-studies over real client issues, sales practice, and much more. Another thing that makes us different is each one of our course-creators are experts in their field. We’re currently in the process of building two more 6-week courses in sales as well as gut and hormone health.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man that’s a good question… favorite places to eat would have to be STQ by Killens, best steak in the city hands down. I also love Superica and Calle Onze in the Heights. Smoosh, Jeni’s and Fat-Cat creamery are great for ice cream. As far as places to go out and have a drink, we recently went to FAO in Midtown and had a blast, they have a lot of fun games you can play. Drift is a good time for watching games. Eight Row Flint is a fun, small bar to take friends if you want to impress them with good cocktails and a dank food truck. Last but not least I have to give a shoutout to my favorite gym in the city, OAK Fitness in the Heights. I’ve taken many friends there. Great equipment, even better community.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Dedicated to everyone who has helped us grow into the individuals we are today who are capable of creating such a successful business.
