We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Viviana Coles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Viviana, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is that I lead with lived experience and practical tools. Professionally, I’ve spent decades helping couples rebuild emotional and physical connection with strategies that actually work in real life. Personally, as a married, career-minded mom, I’m practicing the same skills I teach, in the same busy seasons my clients are living through. That blend of authenticity and practicality builds trust, and trust is the foundation of a strong brand.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Houston Relationship Therapy is a relationship therapy practice in central Houston that specializes in helping couples rebuild emotional and physical intimacy. What sets us apart is that we don’t treat intimacy like a “bonus” topic. We treat it like a core part of relationship health. Many couples come to us feeling like roommates, stuck in resentment, exhausted by parenting and careers, or caught in a cycle where affection and sex feel awkward, pressured, or nonexistent. We help them restore closeness in a way that feels safe, realistic, and sustainable.

I’m most proud of the way we help couples move from confusion and disconnection to clear, doable steps that create real change. That includes strengthening communication, repairing trust, and building the emotional safety that makes physical intimacy make sense again. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s progress: consistent connection, honest conversations, and a healthier rhythm of affection and desire.

Getting here business-wise wasn’t easy. Building a practice around intimacy takes clarity and courage because many people avoid these conversations or oversimplify them. I overcame challenges by doubling down on advanced training, staying focused on the couples I’m best equipped to help, and building a practice culture rooted in warmth, professionalism, and direct, practical guidance.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that couples don’t need more vague advice, they need a plan that fits real life. What I want the world to know about Houston Relationship Therapy is simple: we are here for couples who want to feel close again emotionally and physically, and who are ready to do the work with expert support that’s compassionate, honest, and effective.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit Houston for a week, I would keep the entire trip centered around the two areas closest to my office locations, The Heights and the Post Oak corridor, because they genuinely have so much to offer.

One of the things I love most is that clients often tell us they turn their therapy visit into an outing. They’ll schedule a session and then build a little “date” or “reset day” around it, because both neighborhoods make it easy to do that. You can grab coffee beforehand, take a walk to clear your head, go to lunch after, or plan a relaxed dinner later. It turns something meaningful into a full experience, and it helps couples stay intentional about their relationship outside of the session.

The Heights has that charming, walkable neighborhood energy. It’s perfect for a low-pressure day of browsing, strolling, and lingering. It’s the kind of area where you can slow down, have real conversations, and feel like you are actually spending time together, not just running errands side by side.

The Post Oak area has a totally different vibe. It’s polished, elevated, and great for making it feel like a special occasion. If you want a day that feels a little more “treat yourself,” it’s an easy choice. There’s a lot of options for dining, shopping, and relaxed hangouts that make it simple to turn a quick appointment into a full afternoon or evening.

So my itinerary would basically be a week of mixing those two neighborhoods depending on the mood: Heights for charm and connection, Post Oak for an upscale, celebratory feel, with plenty of time built in for walking, talking, eating, and just enjoying being in Houston together.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my husband and my clients. My husband deserves credit for being a real-life partner in the daily work of staying connected and intentional, especially in the busiest seasons. And my clients deserve enormous recognition for trusting me with their stories and showing up with courage. They remind me every day that progress comes from honesty, effort, and practical steps, not perfection.
