We had the good fortune of connecting with Dusten Nzoungou and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dusten, how do you think about risk?
The way that I think about taking risks is simple; you only lose if you don’t take that risk and try. Part of taking risks is mostly about having Faith. Having faith in God has really helped me taking risks better, because a lot of times, you just happen to know when it’s time to that chance, make that move, and most importantly trust that everything will be alright and that you got this!

The roles that risks have played in my life have been pretty good for the simple fact that I’ve always taken my risks with confidence, faith and determination to make my vision come to fruition. The outcome so far has been positive because it allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and learn new ways to achieving my goals.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would like to say that the number one thing that sets me apart from others is the fact that I embrace my faults and losses. I see those as a way to recreate or rebrand myself as well as my business so that I could become better and master my craft. Often times starting off as a Makeup Artist, it could be very easy to get discouraged, but however being consistent at ALL times, even on your worst days or when you feel as if you did not perform your very best. It has not always been easy, but over time after practice and discipline, I chose to accept the fact that it’s always okay to get up and try again, you only win or master a skill or talent through repetition and never giving up.

There were many times when I started off doing makeup professionally, I would get discouraged due to the fact I did not always achieve certain desired looks or I had trouble figuring out my signature makeup look as well as being time-efficient with clients, however after continuously learning different tips and techniques as well as endless practicing I started getting more confident and comfortable with doing makeup as I started finding my own way.

What I would like for everyone to know that no matter what obstacle your facing, never let it get in the way of achieving a goal or a dream and it’s always okay to start over as many times as you need and try again until you master the craft of your choice.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So after being in Houston for a couple of years now, I would take my friends to a couple of my most favorite spots which would go a little something as follows:

Eat

The BreakFast Klub (despite it’s extremely long line lol, it has some good breakfast food in a very laid back and chill environment where you could just eat and catch up with your friends.)

-New Spot Eatery (another great brunch spot that is very nice to chill, eat brunch and it’s actually a very new & popular spot
-Graces (Some good comfort food)
-Pappadeaux (looking for some cajun food, then this is it)
-Steak 48 ( For something a little upscale & chic)
-Cru Wine lounge (Great wine & food)

Hangout
-iFly Indoor Skydiving (being that my friends and I love to be a little on the adventurous side, this would definitely be one of our spots to go)
-The Galleria (Because what girl and her friends don’t like shopping? lol)
-The Downtown Aquarium (the Ferris wheel is my favorite part)
-FAO which is an arcade bar (games, drinks, and fun)
_Hermann Park (sometimes we enjoy bike rides)

Visit

-Museum of Fine Arts
-Color Factory (one of the best places to take pictures)
-Post Houston (New spot to hang out and try food from many different food spots)
-Toyota Center ( Whether it’s for a good basketball game or a concert, count us in).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a special shoutout to everyone around me that has shown me the greatest amount of love and support towards my dreams and achievements. Everybody from close friends to family. I’d also like to give a shoutout to my social media followers for helping me gain recognition of my work as well as the products that I sell.
