We had the good fortune of connecting with DVND and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DVND, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
You won’t know, just keep living.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I am a singer, songwriter, and producer from Fontana California living in Austin, Texas. If you ask me, according to my aspirations, I have a longer journey ahead of me, but coming this far was far from easy, especially in the beginning. I moved to Texas homeless. I knew 1 person out here who had originally moved from California too so I didn’t know anyone at all! I’ve had so many jobs in California ranging from being a mobile pet groomer and sports therapist to working at Jack in the box and game stop. So working at H-E-B as my first job in Texas was easy work. I started my own business as a natural hairstylist in Texas before I got into music again, honestly, I didn’t even think I’d be doing music again after all I had been through. I was in Marching band, choir and theatre growing up, but when life started playing out I felt further away from it. When my business started taking off I saw the opportunity to fall into my passions again.
The biggest lesson I’d say I learned was to trust Gods timing. I didn’t find peace and favor in the things I was doing until I fell into Gods timing and stopped trying to make things make sense all of the time. Including relationships with friends and family or partners. I stopped trying to force connections and outcomes. I started to meditate and ground my mental health as a priority and when I have those little moments of anxiety now I fall into my faith easier so that I’m able to remain passionate about the things that I do. Another lesson I learned is to stop looking at what everyone else around me was doing. I let go of the need for approval and decided to move forward with my own vision.

I want the world to know that it’s okay to breathe even though you make mistakes or make the wrong turn.

DVND is rooted in the divine nature of Gods time and my personal journey. I write and sing about the things in life that we may ponder or hold in our hearts. So that we can release our inhibitions, without shame, through music.

My story is an example of it. From walking my journey alone and starting over in a state I’ve never been to. Walking in my purpose and light. I want to share those lessons, hardships, accomplishments and intimate thoughts with everyone who’s willing to listen!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly if my best friend was coming here it wouldn’t matter what we did as long as we are together. We both have energy meters. So everything would be done in moderation. One thing I’d want to show her is the nature in Texas. All the trees and life are so calming. That would be a great way to balance out our energy. My friend does allot in her life including being a parent. So even though we love a good time, I love her mental health more. We both cook, so for a whole week? Ya we definitely cooking a few times. Aside from that there are sooooo many places to eat in Austin we’d spontaneously just pick something we wanted that day. I like escape rooms and arts and craft activities allot and I know my bestie enjoys creating things. It’s a given! I think one place people should check out in Upstairs Circus the provide so many crafting activities, there’s a bar and the vibes are always chill.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First things first, shoutout to Heavenly Waters. She’s my soul sister, band mate and friend. She’s the reason why I was offered this opportunity. Shoutout to Inhervisions, I’m 1/3 of a indie RnB group alongside Heavenly and Alexis we’re excited to share our love with the world soon.
