We had the good fortune of connecting with Earl Detrick Simpson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Earl Detrick, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Grambling, Louisiana. Growing up in Grambling, my father being a high school band director and my mother a college professor, had a major impact on my upbringing. Being in a high school band at the age of six, I learned how to play brass, percussion and other various instruments that I’ve always include in my music. I further my education by graduating from Grambling State University with a bachelor’s in Hospitality while being in the matching band. Today, I’m still in the pursuit of my goals in the music industry, being a teacher and philanthropists.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others with my music is my up bringing. I’m a laid back, down to earth and tell it like it is type of artist. My style is R&B/Soul with Hip Hop and jazz. I like to combine all three to five the record a certain mix.
By believing in myself, having my wife by my side, and knowing that no hard work goes in vain. The lessons that I’ve learned is being patient and love what you do. I want the world to feel, relate, and understand my music/records as if it was something they’ve been through it going through.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I’m a person that love’s to eat, so we’ll probably go to one of my favorite Brazilian steak house spots, Chama Gaucha. Then find a good lounge with live music, comedy and other entertainment around the city such as the Improve. As I said, I’m a laid-back type of person.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife Jennifer Simpson is my rock and extra back bone. She’s been with me through it all!
