We had the good fortune of connecting with Earnest Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Earnest, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Not giving up on myself is the most important decision I have ever made. Some people will do everything in their power to sabotage your light, the more they perceive what shines within you. This happens when said people want their light to shine brighter than yours. They don’t realize the main factor in preventing their light from shining is the diminishment of the light of others.
Had I listened to all of the negative messages, comments, and slights during conversation. I would have never accomplished any amount of success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The art of it all!
I never in a million generations thought I’d end up where I am now. I wanted to be a fashion designer when I started this adventure at the age of five. If not the world’s best fashion designer.
I had no idea that improving my creative abilities would lead me down the road of writing, directing, producing, screenwriting, and music composition. All I wanted was to use my creations to make people feel beautiful. Honorary Doctorates of Fine Arts, let alone seven, and all the awards for various projects were not on my radar. I am humbled and honored but they were all very unexpected. Especially going from being featured in Variety Magazine during the 81st Venice International Film Festival, Italy. To making the cover of Fashion Art Media magazine out of Scotland, to home with Shoutout and VoyageHouston.
Decorations to date:
Let Them Eat Cake (Official Video) has achieved: 103
Beauty and Grooming Chapter 9 (Official Video) has achieved: 52
Unity Journal: 3
Thankful (Screenplay): 91
Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts: 7
I guess a greater power always had a bigger plan for me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would most certainly take a trip to the Houston Zoo for a relaxing stroll with a glass/cup of wine. By midday we’d make our way over to original Barnaby’s Café on Fairview, for a late lunch. Their Blue Cheese Fondue Waffle Fries are out of this world! The staff and cooks are the best in the industry.
The next day I would say we take a stroll down 19th Street for a bit of shopping and swing by Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams for a quick double scoop Chocolate in their waffle cone. From there we’d start and end the night by taking a drive out side the loop to Kingwood to Pablo’s Cantina and Mexican Grill. For Margaritas, Fajitas and Live music!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Encouragement from acquaintances, clients, and close friends.
From close friends in New York, Ohio, Texas, and beyond, to clients nationwide. To acquaintances on the street and across social media. The greatest acknowledgment and shoutout goes to Kelly Lauren, one of my closest friends. For the excitement we shared during her time in Texas. The joy we had as the fashions for each season were revealed is something I will always remember. Her enthusiasm for the new gowns and outfits made me hope I could use my talents to make others equally as happy, even if just for a moment.
