We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebele Iloanya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ebele, what role has risk played in your life or career?
For every entrepreneur, Risk Taking is a big part of what we do. The market trends change so quickly and is controlled by various factors. As the owner of MODChic, taking risks are inevitable from choosing the right location , buying the right inventory, budgeting, to choosing the right personnel all these have a certain level of risk . I like to say I take calculated risks. I like to know all the facts before taking a decision but sometimes I take a leap of faith. In my personal life I am totally risk Averse.

What should our readers know about your business?
MODChic is women clothing brand I created in 2009 after moving from the UK to the USA. MODChic is for the woman who desires to look unique, classy and put together at an affordable price point. I believe what sets my brand apart from others goes beyond the actual garment but a deep connection to clientele and our community impact. I would like to say I got here through hard work, perseverance and passion but I believe God is the only one that can take that credit. Its been a journey and as with any journey its fraught with wins and challenges. I take each challenge on,  keep a cool head and ask for help. Biggest lesson- its not how fast but how well. We are committed to our Clientele and community. The heart of our business is empowering women and we continue to work with charities to do that. Currently we have an initiative going -where each full priced purchase 10% goes to a Charity that provides educational scholarships to young girls.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh my there are so many interesting things to do in Houston and the greater Houston areas. So let’s make a day of it. We  start off  with brunch at Toasted Yolk Cafe in Sugarland, then go shopping  which is one of my favorite pastime,  we will of course make a stop at MODChic in Sugarland Town Square, then  head over to the Galleria, do a bit of sightseeing and walking, then we go to The River oaks shopping district, have dinner at Bisou and have a drink at Le Colonial before heading home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that have contributed to my success as a Entrepreneur  just to name a few, my late mother who inspired me through her great love for Fashion and hardwork,  my Husband – Chimezie Iloanya who is seasoned entrepreneur with over 20yrs experience under his belt. Andrea Bonner- who has always supported the MODchic brand and put us in front of the fashion crowd in Houston,  Pamela Ellis who I call my business whisperer.
