We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ebony, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always wanted to find a way that I can connect self-love and healing with women and beauty. Inner Gleaux Beauty was birthed from the observations I made on my own personal healing journey. I realized in a lot of the key moments within my journey I was alone, unequipped and often times felt over-whelmed. I thought to myself that if I can create great, handmade skincare products that actually work as well as provide highly pigmented makeup products and utensils for the busy women like myself I can bridge that gap with self-care and beauty altogether. With Inner Gleaux Beauty I purposely designed each product label to include words of affirmation so that whenever one of our customers use one of our products, they are also pouring back within themselves and gently reminding or encouraging themsevles to simply keep going and never give up.
In addition to Inner Gleaux Beauty I have a subsidary called The Breauxs which is for the distinguished gentlemen. I created The Breauxs to serve as a vessle to pour into black men because I feel as though majority of the time they aren’t greeted with love and appreciation publicly. With The Breauxs it is my intention to provide them with great grooming products as well as encouragement from a black woman to let them know that they are loved, they are needed, they are valued, they are appreciated. Over the last few years more than ever we have seen so many of them being gunned down or belittled and I just want them to know that their sisters are proud of them and the growth that they have made; it is not unnoticed. WE SEE YOU!!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love creating my own skincare products. I get a rush and thrill when I create a new one and see how much people like it or how good it may make the skin feel. Formulating my own products is my serenity and peace. I feel so at ease when I am in my office with the music playing and testing out new formulas. Being that I have sensitive skin it is very imperative for me to be open and honest about my products and ingredients because I know how easy the simpliest thing can altar your skin or cause a breakout. Trial and error contributed to where I am today as well as determination. Being an entreprenuer is in no way easy but the day to day hustle and grind makes it all worth it. When I have customers tell me how my products that I made with my own two hands cleared their skin or makes their skin feel so soft and smell amazing; it makes those long nights and early mornings worth it. I have lost family and so-called friends due to my business but the way I see it what God has for me is for me and nothing or no one can stand in the way of that. If someone has a problem with you following your dream and you are being true to yourself then that is their problem and it is none of your concern. Keep your eyes on the prize and continue to live out your dream. I want people to look at Inner Gleaux Beauty and see it as a representation for the woman that kept going even when it was easier to walk away and give up. This is for those that conquer their own inner demons to be their best selves. This is for those women like me that juggle wearing multiple hats and still manage to pour into others. This is for the women like myself that appreciates sisterhood and unity and being a beem of light in a world of so much darkness. You can accomplish anything or be anyone that you truly set your mind to. It all starts in your mind and flows from your heart; the more you let Geaux the more you will Gleaux.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of the places that I enjoy going to are Lost and Found, Kiss Houston, The Address, Bar 5015, Faces, Carringtons, The Oceanaire Seafood Room, Playground, Parma and sooo much more. There are a lot of hidden gems around the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Truthfully speaking, my mother Linda Brown deserves all of the credit and recognition. She has been there for me and with me through everything. From me being shot in the face to every moment I feel that I can not go on or when things begin to feel unbareable. She always encourages me and uplifts me when I need it. With every idea I have she is my go to person and my number one supporter. She always tell me that I can do anything and no matter how frustrated I may get in the process she always remind me to take a deep breath and think it through. She is always there to catch me before I fall and I do not know where I would be without her.
