We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony Hicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ebony, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I feel what helped me the most with my business was staying consistent, throughout the 6 years I’ve been in business I’ve always stayed consistent. I’ve always showed up. Not one client of mine can ever say I cancelled without a real explanation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I can say as an artist it does have its ups and downs for sure. It was not easy, for a long time I didn’t like my work but people did because I was getting booked left and right. I wasn’t so confident in my work for a long time but when I wasn’t busy doing clients lashes I would still practice on my mannequin. Being a lash artist is not easy it’s not a quick get money scheme. You’re touching around somebody’s eyes so you have to be real careful at what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. Cleanliness and sanitation is very important. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is to just do me, don’t try to compete or compare yourself to other lash artist. I would like to world to know that I’m that I’m passionate about my work and I love what I do. I truly love and enjoy meeting people from all over. I love enhancing my clients beauty.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best was visiting here we would have breakfast at the breakfast klub, go checkout break life to relieve some stress. We would end our night at Lost & found I love their pasta & the vibes, Tuesday I would take her to fun plex yes I’m still a kid at heart lol, and we would end up at taste bar and kitchen. Wednesday I would take her to ride atv’s and get dirty, then we would go catch a vibe at kamp. Thursday, it’s getting closer to the weekend so we would go to domain on Westheimer. Friday we would wake up early and go to telwink and grab breakfast, then head to do rugtufting and create rugs, we would end our night at nomad, Saturday we would eat brunch at Forget me not, of course we would get drunk off mimosas and we’ll need a nap after that, Saturday night we would go to Address. I would be sending sister girl home Sunday evening after church.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give my mom a shoutout. She was my inspiration to becoming a lash technician, growing up my mom worked in a nail shop on Tidwell & Antoine. While working in that nail shop they taught her how to do lash clumps (individuals) and lash strips. My mom still does lashes til this day, but she has always been my motivation behind my business. She’s always been supportive. I started off doing lashes in her house upstairs in a den until I saved enough money to get me a lash studio downtown.
