We had the good fortune of connecting with Eddy Moukoumbi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eddy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
It has allowed me to dive in the unknown knowing that my inner child would have like to see or experience the future me if that makes sense the more risk I take when it comes to personal life or challenge in the creative world with myself even tho it scares me sometimes helped me and it’s still helping me grow as a person and I always feel extremely proud that I tried no matter what.
I know the little kid from Gabon in me is super proud as well

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started making videos on YouTube back in my room in Libreville the capital of Gabon in 2017 as an escape from reality and felt oppress in my queerness at the time.
It felt like an alternative world to me I always liked to create to take pictures and I talk a LOT lol so it was also fitting. The more I posted on all platforms the more I received critiques over my being the way I express myself how flamboyant I am which I was not expecting but was definitely prepared for due to fellow Gabonese picking on me in real life as well at the time and to this day.
The bullying unfortunately to say did built my character and made me stronger with time it became easier to live through it. I realized that i wasn’t online just to take cute pictures and make people laugh, I had to find my purpose why am I actually here to talk about ? And it took sometime and personal growth that still going but I was using my humor to distract from me being Gay at first instead of using my voice to empower me
I use my platform now to display my Gabonese culture which I was running from due to the constant homophobia I deal with from this same culture and let it be know that I am Gabonese & Gay not one or the other and that I exist and other people like me do even tho you don’t see them we are here !

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Not necessarily spot but one of my favorite event in the city @lajungla.htx on Instagram is a femme queer & music forward experience celebrating Afro-diasporic sounds and I have been to every single event .

Spot wise I love Kat’z and it’s 24/7 so you cannot beat that
if you want something different PopFancy Dessert Bar a Houston pop up that change every other month their decor and their food is great
Sweet Paris any location in the city but my favorite is in city center if you love crepes waffle and want to feel a bit of OUI OUI BAGUETTE experience lol

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout the underground LGBTQ community in Gabon that is force to hide due to the high homophobia , transphobia going in the country it’s because of that community that I dare to live my life unapologetically and stand tall in who I am because they cannot and I am thankful everyday that I can and wish that one day we will ALL be able to just exist without no repercussions so shoutout to the LGBTQ people from GABON I see YOU🇬🇦
