We had the good fortune of connecting with Edwin C. De La Rosa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Edwin C., how does your business help the community?
At Krystal Rose Productions we hope that our business which is show business will provide literally thousands of jobs in our community ranging from basic laborers for set or studio construction, engineers, techs and operators in lighting, video, and sound. Visual artists of all fields be it graphic, dance, drama or direction will all enjoy a more stable and gainful opportunities that we hope to create making movies.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been interested in stories. I was orphaned at age 3 and raised by my oldest brother. Stories told around campfires, movies or books can transport a person to another city, country, time, or even another world. By the time I was in the 4th grade, I had read more books than anybody at my school but that wasn’t enough. I began writing my own stories, with characters I would create entire worlds and lifetimes on stapled together pieces of notebook paper. Unfortunately by age 17, I was thrust into the military for 8 years. When I left the military, everything became about becoming a normal person like most people I too was caught up by time and economic constraints. Of course the artist inside could not be kept locked up. With every spare minute I had, I pursued acting, singing, dancing, writing. Despite small successes onstage, screen and even becoming a published author with award-winning screenplays. the day to day economics would not let me grow. So I have finally decided to devote myself one hundred percent to the life I’ve always dreamed of creating stories that make the world laugh, scream or gasps in horror, cry and even dare to dream of whole new worlds. I am Edwin De La Rosa and I approve this message.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This city is so full of unsung arts like The Menil Collection, The Houston Museum of Fine Arts, The Houston Grand Opera or Ballet plus hundreds of small theatre venues like the Town & Country theatre yet somehow a small gathering at home with a backyard BBQ making our own music and singing our songs while discussing future plans of making movies always seems to be the best of times.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife who puts up with a total madman intent on creating an entire film production company, not just one movie. Outside of the realm of Hollywood that is. The list of people that have inspired me is way too long to mention. I guess my greatest inspiration is Moe Howard, Alfred Hitchcock and Eagle Pennell. My closest mentors would be Jeff Baldwin, the Director of Entertainment at the Texas Renaissance Festival and Dr. Boyd the Director of HCC’s Film School. Now as far as everyday reminders to never give up, I’m just surrounded by people like Sheri Davis, Johnny Mach Maciag, Faustino Deblas, Marcus Muhd, Clinton Shorter, Vickey Dempsey Burns, Greg Taylor, Lisa DaBrat Martinez (Danny Trejo’s niece), Moe McCoy, Alexis Arnold, Shawn Welling and I’d better stop there because there’s literally thousands here in Houston just waiting for the next opportunity to be a part of the film industry.
