Meet Effie Flores | Custom Cake designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Effie Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Effie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always liked decorating and baking so I decided to combine two of my passions together. I wanted my family and friends to not only enjoy my baking but also see my process and my steps on how I became who I am and where I am now. I wanted to show my daughter that even though you are a stay-at-home mom you can still make income for yourself and always be what you want to be and I wanted to show my son’s how no matter what happens in life you can always find a way to keep making money and push yourself to the Limit as long as you do what you love to do. Being a stay at home doesn’t mean you just that…Baking was my way to express myself and my personality. I went for it and never looked back. Besides my children..this was and has been the best choice in my life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I started baking it really was for just friends and family. There was so many and still is so many sleepless nights. I never thought baking was my talent, until I put fondant in my hand. Felt like a kid lol playing with Play-Doh. When suffering with mental illness such as depression or anxiety it is important to find something that brings you comfort and joy and for me I found a love in creating art but edible. Thanks to all my friends and family and customers love for getting me this far and believing in me. When you think of EffiezCakez I want people to remember and see my love for art

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love my city so much and there is so much to offer. If you have not been down Edgebrook, houston Tx, you are missing out on some of the most authentic Mexican food restaurants and food trucks ever. From Galveston Island to downtown are so many adventurous things to do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to thank God first for this amazing talent that he has blessed me with. Also so greatful for many of my baking mentors and customers that keep coming back and growing with me. My mom is my biggest cheerleader, as many times as I have cried and said it was to much she always told me keep pushing.
