We had the good fortune of connecting with Eisani and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eisani, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I remember always being exposed to, entertained by, inspired, motivated and enlightened by music, since I was a very young child. Originally, my passion was to play musical instruments. Later, my passion evolved in to singing and rapping.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started playing musical instruments while I was in elementary and middle school. Once I got to high school, I converted my love of Hip Hop music and culture in to an artform that I could practice and utilize to express myself. Since then, I have come a long way as an artist. There have been many challenges, including episodes of me freezing up on stage (early on), facing conflicts with record labels, production companies, agents and promoters (occasionally) and handling various setbacks that have prevented me from releasing music and art as often as I would have liked in the past. The music industry is not easy to navigate, so coming in I knew that there would be battles to fight and hurdles to overcome. What I can say is that no matter what, I kept pushing and continuously made progress. This is a marathon, not a race; you have to think in the long term or you will easily get discouraged, burn out and eventually quit. One lesson that I’ve most definitely learned is that you can’t take anything personal in this business. You have to navigate different personalities, situations and business arrangements and it’s all very cut throat, so you have to stay focused and take care of yourself and your personal business. When people think of my story, I want them to know that NOTHING was handed to me and that I had to work, fight, sacrifice and push for each and everything that I have ever gained in this industry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I’m not originally from Houston; I moved here a few years ago. If my family and friends from Newark, New Jersey and Chicago, IL were to visit me, I would definitely take them to ALL of my favorite foodie spots here! Some of my favorite restaurants are The Turkey Leg Hut, Kamp Houston, The Breakfast Klub, Reggae Hut, Jamaican Jerk Cuisine and The Cupcake Kitchen. Other than the food, Houston has some really great events that take place all over the city. I’d look for wine tastings, paint & sip parties, concerts and live performances, open mic nights and fashion shows. I would also take my family and friends shopping at the Galleria Mall and at the Memorial City Mall. There are also a lot of boutique shops on 19th street (that have authentic and high quality vintage items and antiques), an area of high quality thrift near downtown and various spots where you can get authentic West African, Indian and Asian garments.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The person that I owe the most to in terms of keeping me motivated, supporting me and helping me through each and every stage of my journey has always been my Father. He would come to all of my performances and made sure that our entire family would also come to support me. He would buy many copies of magazines and publications that I was featured in and then made sure that all of our family and family friends would as well. He would provide me with business advice and help me make important connections that would further elevate my career. He was always there; supportive and proud of me, no matter what. He is the main reason why I never quit.

Additionally, the members of my family and all of our family friends have been extremely supportive of me and my music and entertainment career. Since I was a child performing in talent shows and showcases, I can remember everyone showing up to watch me perform.

Lastly, I have to thank the entire team at Klassik Records, LLC for believing in me, molding me in to a better artist and supporting me in the most recent manifestation of my journey as a recording and performing artist. The support of my record label, Icon Studio Suite, my label mates and the affiliates and associates of Klassik Records, LLC. The efforts, collaborations and support from this collective has been one of the best of my entire career and I am forever grateful.
