We had the good fortune of connecting with Elida Garza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elida, how does your business help the community?
I feel that my passion as a fashion portrait photographer has helped many upcoming inspiring models achieve their goals and passions within the modeling world. I first started my career as a model, and then transitioned into becoming a portrait photographer, with my knowledge and insight of the modeling industry, I feel that when a model books a session with me, I tend to interact with the models perspective in mind, and use that as a tool to collaborate on set. I can truly put myself into the models shoes because I have experienced their side of the industry. I would love to use my photography to travel the world and meet new people and experience their culture! My vision is to capture their stories through my lens.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a fashion portrait photographer, I specialize in creative fashion photography. What most excites me is my black and white portraits! I love to play with the contrast and shadows of my portraits, I feel like the details show so beautifully and they tend to be my most favored work. I first started my journey as a photographer being in front of the camera as a model. My interest peaked after working with so many talented photographers and seeing their excitement after getting “the shot”!. I just had to try it for myself, so I purchased a starter pack camera set and began my journey, I practiced on my friends who were also models, my family and even my dog! I then knew that I wanted to be behind the camera just as much as I did on set as a model, so that’s when I decided to turn my photography into a business. I have learned so much along the way! I have especially learned more about myself and what I like and dislike in my styles of work. I would love to shout out to the world my desire to keep creating and to travel and meet new people and just create! I feel that my brand will change over time as I grow and learn and push myself outside of my comfort zone. I am excited and can’t wait to see what else I do with my brand.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a bit of a homebody, but when I do go out, I start off by getting a coffee, a few of my favorite coffee places are Tenfold, Bohemeos, or XELA, I also like Day 6 coffee and they have amazing kolaches! A few other favorite places to visit would be art exhibits, and the museum’s, I enjoy taking my camera and walking the around the Houston parks to find interesting subjects to photograph. I also, enjoy yoga at black swan yoga and just any group meet ups!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank everyone who has given me the opportunity to create with them in the industry. I first started as a model and throughout the years, I have met a wide range of talented photographers, who have mentored and inspired me to pick up my own camera and begin my journey as a photographer. I would also love to give a shout out to my fiancé, who is an incredibly talented film photographer Jacob Louis Garcia. He has been my biggest support.
