We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Castro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, what is the most important factor behind your success?
It has to be determination! My passion is doing hair & as an artistic career it can be looked down on but I started with almost nothing & I want nothing more than to be successful & make someone out of myself.I knew if I wanted to be successful in this industry I had to set myself apart somehow, I also knew it was going to be a challenge but if I worked hard enough I was going to get there so I did & continue to.Once I started working at a salon I went straight to booth rental so knowing I had to come up with the money I had to hustle! I would post my work on every form of social media,& get models just to have something to show the few people who followed me my work & what I had to offer & soon after more & more people started noticing me & coming to me to get their hair or makeup done with me, they would always tell me they loved the pictures of my work on social media & wanted to check out my work in person & after they would recommend their friends & tag me in their pictures so more people could see my work & soon my clientele grew & continues to because I keep learning & bettering myself,I keep myself up to date in new trends by taking classes any spare time I have to give my clients the best hair I possibly can 💓
What should our readers know about your business?
At Follow Your Arrow Salon we specialize in blonding & balayage & as a latina owned business we have a large latina clientele & our hair is pretty thick & most of time course which makes it not the easiest hair to get to blonde but we have studied countless hours to have the knowledge to get our clients to the blonde they want safely. I’m proud that I have grown my business this much in 2 years it seems unreal to me that I have got this far , it has not been easy at all no body really tells you everything that goes on behind the scenes of owning your business at any age let alone at 21 , when things got difficult & I thought about quitting I would pray and remind myself that it was just part of the journey there’s always going to be challenges but you have to know you’re strong enough to get over them & they will only make you smarter and stronger. I have gotten to where I am today, which is still not fully where I want to be by putting a lot my time, energy & hard work into my business anytime I have a chance I travel to take hair classes because I never want to stop getting better I want to give my clients the best hair they can get & they love that haha ! It hasn’t been easy there’s ups & downs there was times where I would barely make a profit at the beginning & I wanted to give up but my mom would always me push me to work harder by reminding me of why I started in the first place . I’ve learned that hard work does pay off & if you want anything in life for yourself you have to work hard & you will achieve anything you set your mind to , I want the world to know that I’m a DACA recipient & I’m beyond proud to have the opportunity to grow my business in the USA . I hope after reading this alot of my fellow latinas/latinos fully believe in themselves & chase after their dreams whatever they may be ❤️
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I live in Nacogdoches which is a small town but it does have some pretty cool places ! So we’d start the day Sunday by having brunch at the Fredonia Hotel maybe drink a couple mimosas… then walk around downtown probably do some shopping at the cutest boutique Texas Size Bling then go home and relax for a couple hours then get ready & go get some dinner at Maklemores after that go home and watch a movie. Monday morning we’d go for a walk at the Azalea trail & grab lunch at Dollys Diner & drive to Lufkin which is where the nearest mall is and walk around in the mall and do some shopping they have a really cute vendor mall place in there . Tuesday we would just hangout at the house then go to Target after lunch then go to the movies .Wednesday we would have lunch at Newks Eatery & go bowling after & grab a couple drinks at the bar next door then go home and relax the rest of the day. Thursday we’d go for dinner & drinks at Barkeeps restaurant. Friday we would grab a couple drinks at Flashback Cafe & then go to another friend’s house to hang out and talk about our week. Saturday we would probably drive to Houston and spend the day there before she has to go home .
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom ! She has been my rock through everything, she’s helped me up & encouraged me every time I felt like things were too hard
