We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Fertitta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, how do you think about risk?
Honestly, the idea of what could happen if you don’t take a risk has played a larger role in our careers than anything else. My mother opened the doors to Longoria Collection in 1993 and it was only natural that the store be dedicated to all things design. My grandmother was an interior designer who had a store of her own and, from a young age, she nurtured my mother’s creativity, something my mom has done for me over the years as well. The women in my family have always chased their dreams, approaching risks as exciting opportunities, which is why the launch of our latest collection was the result of a classic “light bulb” moment. We were lounging on the beach enjoying a glass of wine and my mom casually mentioned that she wished she had started her own linen line 25 years ago. I realized that I didn’t want to have that same thought in 25 years and we made the decision to throw caution to the wind and launch LOOK Lifestyle then and there!
What should our readers know about your business?
Maintaining a successful retail business like Longoria Collection for nearly three decades is no small feat and my mom and I have learned countless lessons along the way! Most importantly, we’ve learned that we each bring a unique perspective to the table and that it’s the combination of the two that sets Longoria Collection apart. We care for our customers like family (because they are), we understand the importance of only partnering with the very best, and we’ve worked tirelessly to build our knowledge and expertise in all areas of home design. That knowledge is what drove the debut of LOOK Lifestyle. We’ve been sourcing the world’s finest linens for decades and we’ve truly experienced them all! We knew there had to be a way to deliver high-end luxury linens directly to consumers at a competitive price point, and we are overjoyed that our dream is finally here! This collection is so special because we have been able to oversee both the design and the production of every piece, and everything is handcrafted exclusively for LOOK in an Italian factory where many of the artisans have worked for over 30 years. Rarely will you find this quality of material and craftsmanship at an affordable price point, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone we know!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Houston, we would kick off the weekend with Friday morning coffee and French toast at Tiny Boxwoods followed by a walk around Memorial Park. Next up would be facials from Deborah Michelson at Bella Rinova before taking the kids to BB Lemon for dinner under a cabana outside! Saturday would include a stroll through the Menil, a little shopping at Tootsies, a quick mani-pedi at Isle Pedi Spa in West Ave. and an evening spent sipping vodka martinis listening to live music at Turner’s. Alas, it sounds like Sunday will be spent at Define River Oaks where we’ll spend the day working off all of this fun we’ve got planned!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve been surrounded by visionary women my entire life which is something I never take for granted. Our story and the stories behind Longoria Collection and LOOK Lifestyle are really rooted in my grandmother and the passion she had for life, beauty, and love. Her creativity and enthusiasm for life trickled down to my mother and then to me, and I can’t imagine where I would be without the guidance and support of those two fearless women. I have also been fortunate to work with powerhouse women like Alexandra von Fürstenberg and Aerin Lauder who have really inspired me both as a mother and a woman managing a burgeoning business!
