We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Piña and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is that consistency and authenticity matter more than perfection. In the floral industry, especially in a fast-paced, creative market like Houston. There’s constant pressure to keep up with trends and compete with larger businesses. But through Space City Flowers, I’ve learned the value of staying true to our brand and our quality. People remember how you made them feel, not just how pretty the flowers looked, and that mindset has shaped every part of how we operate and grow.

Most importantly, I’ve learned the power of community. Many of our customers are neighbors, friends, or fellow small business owners. Every order is a chance to celebrate someone’s special moment, and we take pride in making each one feel personal and meaningful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
“My art is about more than just flowers, it’s about creating meaningful experiences. At Space City Flowers, we’re not just arranging blooms; we’re telling stories. Whether it’s for a wedding, a corporate event, or a simple bouquet, each piece we create is a reflection of the emotions, energy, and personality of the people or event it’s for. What sets me apart is my dedication to making every arrangement feel personal, unique, and special. I draw inspiration from the people I work with, their stories, and the communities they belong to. It’s about the connection we build through flowers.

I’m most proud of the relationships we’ve built with our customers. The trust they place in us to celebrate their special moments, and the way they come back year after year, is something I treasure deeply. I’m excited about the direction our brand is headed, particularly as we move into expanding our reach beyond Houston. Every arrangement is a step toward sharing our vision on a broader scale, and it’s something I’m incredibly passionate about.

The journey to where I am today has definitely not been easy, but it has been worth every challenge. Like many small business owners, I’ve faced moments of doubt and obstacles that seemed impossible to overcome. There were times when it felt like the market was oversaturated, or when I struggled to balance creativity with the practicalities of running a business. But I’ve learned to embrace those challenges as opportunities to grow. Persistence, a willingness to learn, and surrounding myself with a supportive community of other creatives and mentors helped me through. The journey has taught me that success isn’t about perfection, it’s about resilience and passion for what you do.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the power of consistency and authenticity. In a world full of trends and instant gratification, staying true to your values, your vision, and your craft will always set you apart. And that’s what I want the world to know about Space City Flowers, we’re not just here to create beautiful arrangements, but to create an experience that resonates with people. Every bouquet we make is a reflection of our passion for design, our love for our community, and our commitment to making each client feel like family

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Houston, I’d kick off the week with breakfast at Love Croissants for fresh, flaky pastries. Then, we’d head over to Hermann Park for a peaceful stroll or bike ride. Next, we’d dive into the Museum District, checking out the exhibits, followed by lunch in Chinatown for some authentic eats. Since staying active is key for me, I’d take them to a fun running club or a high-energy cycle class at RIDE Indoor Cycling. In the evening, we’d enjoy drinks at the stunning rooftop bar Z on 23, followed by a delicious dinner at Rosie Cannonball for Modern European dishes. To cap it off, we’d head to Foundation Room Houston for live music and a great vibe. It’s the perfect mix of culture, fitness, great food, and adventure, everything that makes Houston such a fun and dynamic place to explore!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to Karen Tran, whose work has been a huge source of inspiration for me. Karen is an internationally recognized floral and event designer with more than 23 years of experience in the luxury event industry. She’s best known for her breathtaking grand-scale floral designs, which have been featured globally through media and publications. Her ability to transform spaces with flowers and her dedication to both design excellence and education has inspired me to not only push the boundaries of what’s possible but to dream big. She has shown me the power of floral design to make a global impact, and I aspire to follow in her footsteps, bringing Space City Flowers to the worldwide stage one day. Karen’s influence has been a guiding light, and I am deeply grateful for the inspiration she continues to provide.
