Meet Emily Phillips | Hair Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
From a young age, I’ve always dreamed of owning my own salon. Even as a child, when people would ask, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ I would proudly say ‘a hairstylist.’ The desire to open my own business has been with me for as long as I can remember, largely inspired by watching my parents build and grow their own businesses. Their success, driven by hard work, grit, and determination, fueled my passion and motivated me to pursue the same path. Seeing them thrive taught me not only the value of perseverance but also the power of following your dreams and making them a reality.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe what sets my business apart is the attention to detail. While many people do hair, it’s the entire experience that truly differentiates my business. Doing hair is more than just about the style—it’s about being a part of my clients’ lives. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing and supporting them through life’s milestones, from marriages and the birth of children to navigating tough times. Being there for those moments makes what I do feel incredibly special.
I’ve reached this point through constant learning, embracing humbling feedback, and the encouragement of those around me. The relationships I’ve built with my clients have been key to my success. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. It hasn’t been easy, especially over the past year when I made the biggest leap of my life, but every challenge has been worth it.
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to always believe in yourself. The way you speak to yourself is powerful—it can shape not just your mindset, but your future.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My first stop would be Hazar Coffee in Pearland. It’s amazing Turkish coffee, a gem that breaks the standards of coffee shops.
Hypothetically this being a friend not from here I would definitely be going to dine at some fine dining spots like Annabelle Brasserie or Georgia James.
I’m definitely a music enthusiast so seeing a show at house of blues or white oak, depending on who is playing, would be a must.
For a good drink I am obsessed with Rose Water in clear lake. One of the most impeccable places outside of Houston for a gin and tonic.
Other than that, my spouse and I thoroughly enjoy hosting game nights and comedy show viewing nights at home. Which is where you would find me if not at one of the above places.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is a tough decision because so many people have influenced my life in meaningful ways, but I believe my mom deserves the most credit. Not only for her unwavering support, mentorship, and love, but also for her incredible ability to overcome every obstacle she faced. Through it all, she maintained the most positive attitude, always getting back up and trying again. Her resilience and strength have been a constant inspiration to me.
