We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma Maldonado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emma, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Patience. The most important lesson my business has taught me is patience. I started my business with a lot of adversities, no rich parents, no rich husband, no handouts, and no investors. My true narrative has always been really just pure patience and hard work. I am naturally a goal driven oriented person and always strive to think long term when I am working on something. Whether it be a business problem I have to solve, my client relationships, a work project or my business as a whole- my legacy that I leave behind is always the end game. I think about my end goal, and I reverse engineer all the steps it will take for me to get there. Lack of patience is what kills so many peoples dreams.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
15 years ago I would of never thought in a million years that I would be where I am at today. Heck! Before I got into eyelash extensions, I wanted to become a nurse practitioner at a young age. But something kept pulling me back into the beauty industry and it was my passion for beauty and art combine. I believe what sets me apart from others and makes me unique is my passion for taking good care of people and safe healthy eyelash extensions. I do this by constantly taking as many classes as I can each year to better my craft and my business. I only want to offer my clients the BEST of everything, so keeping my skills finely tuned and sharp on a daily basis is a must. I want you to leave feeling better and more happy after seeing me. I do not take what I do for granted or lightly at all. I am most proud of the positive community and friendships I have formed with my clients over the years. Getting to where I am today was not easy but I wouldn’t change it for anything. It has molded me into the strong person I am today. It took tons of patience and sacrifices. Not many people realize this but for almost a decade, I sacrificed and said no to invitations to birthday parties, family/friends gatherings, weddings, holiday parties, my weekends, my weeknights, and my sleep to get to where I am at today. Nothing great ever comes easy and all my sacrifices have been so well worth it. Life as a business owner is always a rollercoaster every single day. My journey as a lash artist and a business owner has taught me to be a smart and quick problem solver multiple times a day. I want the world to know that no matter where you came from, what you went through in your past, or how young or old you are- it is never too late to start pursuing your dreams and to go for what sets your soul on fire. Nothing is impossible when you work hard and have patience.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have many favorite spots in the city. I’m a foodie and I love getting to learn about different cultures. So I’m always trying different cuisines all the time. My current favorite place to eat is EAD Vietnamese restaurant here in The Woodlands area. I’m picky when it comes to my Vietnamese Pho soup broth and they have the BEST pho around here! Then if you want something more Italian, Grimaldi’s Pizza has the best pizza ever ! They never disappoint! And when it comes to relaxing, I always love my deep tissue Thai massage. I love going to House Of Thai here in Magnolia, Tx. I always get the 120 minutes Thai combination massage every time I go. I’m also a natural artist at heart, when I’m not doing lash art on my clients or working on my business, I love taking painting classes. Painting With A Twist is a great and fun place to go and paint with your girlfriends!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For anyone that even knows me somewhat, you know that I do not shy away from my Christian faith and it has always been so very important to me and has been a vital part of where I am today. God’s grace has been nothing less than miracles in my life personally and especially professionally in my business. Very early on when I started my business, I asked God to help me have good discernments and to do business with integrity. Since I said that prayer that day, it’s been a constant snowballing of growth for me ever since.
